Publisher's summary

According to the perennial wisdom teachings, your vocation is not a means of survival in the world - it is a pure expression of your life force. Vocation arises, not as a response to external forces, but authentically from within your own body. The Ultimate Anti-Career Guide is the first audio curriculum which adapts this classic approach to right livelihood to the challenges unique to our place and time. Since 1998, this life-changing workshop by Dr. Rick Jarow has helped thousands of frustrated job-seekers open to their intuition, transform their values into action, and answer their true calling - instead of settling for a paycheck. Traditional career strategies are simply reactions to the job market, Dr. Jarow begins - for example, matching an inventory of skills with the want ads. An "anti-career" is a manifestation of the unique blueprint for your destiny encoded in your body since birth. The key to this revolutionary approach is your body's chakra system, the seven centers that govern the free flow of prana, or life force, through your body. Through a program of powerful meditations, you gain direct access to your chakras, clearing and aligning them with the energetic forces that make everything in life possible.

You don't have to go out looking for a job, Dr. Jarow teaches. The job you were born to do will unfold in time, like a tree from a seed, as you let go of self-limiting concepts and open to the energy of creation - with The Ultimate Anti-Career Guide.

Very helpful and insightful

I learned a lot about myself listening to this book. It asks questions that really make you think about what you are doing and why. I was on the verge of making some big mistakes and this book helped me think through it all and look in a direction more suited to my interests. I highly recommend it if you are trying to figure out what you want to do with your life and aren't really sure. I am a mom of two and this inspires me to nurture my children's passions so that some day they will find meaningful employment.

No idea how to rate this book???

The information was very interesting, I really like how he focuses on living in the west and are drive for making a living and how that can get us into places were we are no longer being true to who we are. He teaches you how to cultivates a sense of "self" and practices on how to work from that space.
It is a great book
Now on the other hand the narration is almost unbearable. He has a deep voice that is monotone and he talks slow not as slow as Eckhart Tolle but slow enough. I really didn't think I could make it through the first chapter. I'm trying to listen to it now and I just want to shut it off, I think I'm going to buy the book. I'm glad I use credit cause I would not have been happy if I had spent $35 on this

Inner and Outer Focus and Personal Review

I have a huge appreciation for the likes of Rick Jarow when it comes to CAREER and JOB consideration: he aptly and ably reminds us that EVERYTHING is about how we feel operating in this world. Just as it is of utmost importance to realize that one spends at least one third of their lives in sleep, so investing in a good and refreshing bed is critical to the personal integrity of sleep hygiene and self love: so it is also just as critical for a life lived LIVING (rather than being experienced as dull or 'dead') to realize the importance of CALLING, INTEGRITY, JOY and INNER REVELATION as what draws you to your 'life's work' rather than the dollar line and so called concepts of insured or guaranteed employment. He is a very straight forward and rational lecturer, obviously well read in the classics and not too esoteric for layfolk like understanding, although I would reckon some concrete types would feel a tug of resistance towards the 'new agey' meditations...which, myself being a reluctant meditator, I found still enjoyable and useful for life paradigms I had never considered from those angles before...and got some illumination from the exercise even with my resistance. I do find him a bit of a big business and big brother dogger...one hears a tinge of the old cliches that are still the hallmark of the sixtie's generation jaundiced eye towards anything very corporate or 'government'...but this is mild and everyone that reads or studies is responsible for figuring out what is baby and what is bathwater for themselves. All in all, I would HEARTILY recommend this tutoring for anyone, at any point in life, as a great personal reckoning and re-evaluation of what is being made a priority in their everyday lives and how to live more fully into their own sense of calling. In joy it! I know you will!

Is this an abridged version?

I am not happy that this version differs from the original. In the original, there were many other examples of how family and past experiences shape your attitudes about work. It is still really good, but the original recording was better. The sound quality on this one is poor too.

Best audible I’ve listened to so far

This book is packed with amazing wisdom and I am so grateful I found it. If you want to live a live of authenticity and are looking for direction in your career and within yourself, this is a must read. It’s truly amazing. I need to listen to it at least 3 times to really grasp all the wisdom and knowledge.

way out there -or deep ?

True callings are never easy to find...mostly, they find you.

This book will help those more in tune with that approach and subject, to clear away the mostly limiting and non-creative approaches bschools and corporate america embed early and often, --which is, "build it at any and all cost, and they will come ( and you can get rich)-but too bad if its not your life's calling--its ours"--after all these years --thats getting old.--its about time for purpose.

this book is all about alignment, and while its does get "out there" sometimes, the message is powerful and positive. You need to know yourself deeply inside and out and be at peace -and that -will prove to be a true reward.

The journey of alignment

II discovered some amazing thought processes and philosophies from the this audio book. Although I was ready to tune in/with all the messages at the same level. Through different stages of growth I refer to this audio book and every time I pick up something new and it transforms my paradigm of self growth/improvement.

Best book I've read on internal career calibration

I have really enjoyed this book.
It's especially wonderful in the audio format. It has meditation sessions that are read in a deep, soothing voice by the author. I find it especially wonderful to fall asleep to at night while listening to the meditations. The book is more philosophical than a how-to book. It spoke to me about what it means to work for a living. It's about finding one's passion. It examines one's life as a whole - childhood, parental forces, personal heros, deep pains, joys, desire to contribute to the world - in order to help us find our career passions. My best chapter was the last one, which gives concrete advice if you are still searching. I think I listened to it about 10 times. For a how-to book, I would not recommend this book, but instead the "Pathfinder" by Rockport Institute. I would suggest you get the Pathfinder in the paperback-format, because it has tons of exercises, which you would want to do.
