Publisher's Summary

15 thriller masters. 1 masterful thriller.

Former war crimes investigator Harold Middleton possesses a previously unknown score by Frederic Chopin. But he is unaware that, locked within its handwritten notes, lies a secret that now threatens the lives of thousands of Americans. As he races from Poland to America to uncover the mystery of the manuscript, Middleton will be accused of murder, pursued by federal agents, and targeted by assassins. But the greatest threat will come from a shadowy figure out of his past: the man known only as Faust.

The Chopin Manuscript is a unique collaboration by 15 of the world's greatest thriller writers. Jeffery Deaver conceived the characters and set the plot in motion; the other authors each wrote a chapter in turn. Deaver then completed what he started, bringing The Chopin Manuscript to its explosive conclusion.

David Hewson (Nic Costa series)

As a school teacher, I was intrigued by the way this book was crafted. With my students, i have created stories where one person starts the story and the plot is passed around until everyone has contributed something to the story. With this novel, I had trouble following this story at times. I had difficulty understanding what theme to focus on and embrace in order to better predict what will or should happen next. While there was a twist ending, I did experience the surprise because I did not really know who to suspect or who to trust. I blame this outcome on the fact that there were so many characters and the authors did not know who they needed to focus on developing and which could be side characters. Mostly I was looking forward to the novel being over so I could start my next book.

I appreciate a well-told story. Although the multiple authors certainly make for an unpredictable ride, the disjointed feeling at every chapter's ending kept me from enjoying the story. However, there are few books with the ridiculous plot twists that such a collaboration provides.

This was an interesting listen. You never knew where the authors were going to take the next chapter or how some characters were going to affect the story.

Overall, it was put together very well and I would recommend it to any looking for a good thriller with lots of plot twists.

I don't think you'd need to be told this book was written by many different authors. It may have created some interesting, unexpected swerves in the plot but it seems have contributed a level of complexity that the story could have done without.
