Its really good, odd and unusual like Sookie, but slower and more normal situations. I really enjoyed this book and I'm excited to listen to the next one.

Charlaine Harris has written a series very different from the perky Sookie Stackhouse series (aka True Blood or Southern Vampire Series). Harper, the main character, is a haunted serious woman who can hear the dead. She has a true dysfunctional past which you learn some of in bits and pieces. Toliver is her brother, but not related, manager. They are a team that truly supports each other through the dark side of life. The storyline features a serial killer and it is sad, twisted tale. There are no laughs in this book, but you are taken on a ride that is intriguing, provocative and evocative. Recommend reading the books in order of sequence. Narrator was superb!

This was even better than the other Charlaine Harris series. Well read. Next book in the series is due in October, I am very ready. I buy almost nothing in hardcover, but this series is worth it. Just a super listen, too. The characters are believable even if you wonder about their special abilities. The voice is smooth and certain, Good read. Solid plot.

The story is fine, though it's not as engaging as the Sukie series. The reader is terrible, like she's always having a cold. The voice is so old for the young character, and it's slow, emotionless and distracting.
