Publisher's Summary

A body has been found on the overlook near Mulholland Drive. The victim, identified as Dr. Stanley Kent, has two bullet holes in the back of his head, from what looks like an execution-style shooting. LAPD detective Harry Bosch is called out to investigate.

As soon as Bosch begins retracing Dr. Kent's steps, contradictions emerge. While Kent doesn't seem to have had ties to organized crime, he did have access to dangerous radioactive substances from just about every hospital in Los Angeles County. What begins as a routine homicide investigation opens up before Bosch into something much larger, more dangerous - and much more urgent.

From AudioFile

By now, most listeners will agree that Len Cariou IS Harry Bosch. Cariou took over about five novels back and has made his own mark with the Connelly books. The only negative fans may voice about Connelly's latest is that it's very short--about half the usual length. That's probably because it started out as a New York Times serialized novel (16 weeks) and was expanded for hardcover and audio publication. In it, Bosch investigates the murder of a doctor and the disappearance of some radioactive cesium. Naturally, Bosch and the FBI lock horns. The case also brings back Bosch's lost love, Agent Rachel Walling. Cariou handles all his characters with aplomb, and Bosch with the gruff preciseness listeners have come to expect. Loved it! It's so much more enjoyable to listen to these books rather than read them... at least for me. I really feel like a fly on the wall in them.

I rate this as one of the best from Connelly because he has such a short time to put the story together. It immediately grabs you and takes you to the end without a break. As in other Connelly books, I have heard them all, Connelly has a warm up time like most writers have, and then they deliver. This book starts out great and reads like it till the end.
If you like Len Cariou, this won't disappoint. This is a classic for him also. Great all around book, very easy to listen to in one day.

This story is another great Harry Bosh story. However, the narration is kind of annoying. To begin with, there is saxaphone music at the end of every chapter and it plays over the narration, sometimes loud enough to make it difficult to hear the story. The narrator tends to put heavy emphasis on consonants which I found a bit of an aggravation but that is probably just my issue. I won't get another audiobook by this narrator, though.
