Publisher's Summary

Now a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou.

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci, clues visible for all to see, yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion, an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.

In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret, and an explosive historical truth, will be lost forever.

As a special bonus, this audio edition includes Dan Brown's October 2005 speech at the University of New Hampshire, introduced by his father. The author discusses the research behind his groundbreaking novel and the controversy it has created. Also, listen to an exclusive interview with Akiva Goldsman, screenwriter of The Da Vinci Code.

What the Critics Say

"In this gleefully erudite suspense novel, Mr. Brown takes the format...to blockbuster perfection." (The New York Times)
"Brown solidifies his reputation as one of the most skilled thriller writers on the planet with his best book yet, a compelling blend of history and page-turning suspense." (Library Journal)
"Many notches above the intelligent thriller; this is pure genius." (Nelson DeMille)

From AudioFile

THE DA VINCI CODE is chock-full of ancient rumors, historical facts, mysterious characters, and modern plots and counterplots. It's thought-provoking and fun and could easily be the downfall of an unwary narrator. Paul Michael handles it all with aplomb. His varied pacing and clear phrasing enliven the wealth of historical information that protagonist Robert Langdon imparts in conversation and clarify the complexity of signs, symbols, and secret codes that abound. In addition, the main characters--French, English, and American--are distinct and believable creations. The husky French-accented voice that Michael gives to Sophie Neveu is particularly noteworthy. A diverting listen that will leave you wanting more. (c) AudioFile 2003

Let's get to the positives: The narrator's voice was excellent. He did multiple characters and their multinational accents very well. He even nailed different types of british accents. Well done.

The not so great: The story is pretty average in quality. Unfortunately it is told very poorly by Dan Brown. He over uses the device where he tells you "something happened" and then ends a chapter without telling you what (with assurance that you'll find out a few chapters later.) In a book of 100 chapters, where easily 50 of them end this way, it becomes very tedious.

The books three main characters take turns becoming stupid so that the other two characters can explain something to the third suddenly stupid person. Clearly this could have been fixed by having a fourth "Alice in Wonderland" character that the other three explain things to.

Since I was not satisfied at the ending of "Lost Symbol", I bought this book to see if there is any difference in ending since so many people said this one is much better. I finished it, and my feeling was the same as when I finished "Lost Symbol"- very engaging beginning & middle, round & round chasing, but nothing there in the end. The "secret" is so laughable, which made the plots non-sense. Also I don't understand why the "bad guy" wanted to reveal himself eagerly when he could just get the secret easily being a "good buy".

"Angels & Demons" is much better with a meaningful purpose.

For the religious controversial, it's just a fiction, and really who cares.

I enjoyed all the historical facts of this book, while you were getting a great suspense thriller, you also received a history listen in symbology. While the story is fictional, don't let it shake your faith or lessen your belief;) Great Story!

This was my first audio book and I absolutely loved it. I downloaded it to our Zune and have now decided this is the best way to "read". The Da Vinci Code (unabridged) was great.
