Publisher's Summary

In this sequel to the phenomenal New York Times best seller The Shadow Rising, Robert Jordan again plunges us into his extraordinarily rich, totally unforgettable world:

...Into the forbidden city of Rhuidean, where Rand al'Thor, now the Dragon Reborn, must conceal his present endeavor from all about him, even Egwene and Moiraine.

...Into the Amyrlin's study in the White Tower, where Amyrlin, Flaida do Avriny a 'Roihan, is weaving new plans.

...Into the luxurious hidden chamber where the Forsaken Rahvin is meeting with three of his fellows to ensure their ultimate victory over the Dragon.

...Into the Queen's court in Caemlyn, where Morgase is curiously in thrall to the handsome Lord Gaebril.

For once the Dragon walks the land, the fires of Heaven fall where they will, until all men's lives are ablaze. And in Shayol Ghul, the Dark One stirs.

What the Critics Say

"Jordan deftly weaves details from previous books into this narrative." (Publishers Weekly)
"Fires of Heaven upholds the very high standards of this major fantasy epic, with battle scenes, comic interludes, and character development all reaching perhaps the highest point in a work that has lacked for none of these." (Booklist)
"Jordan's epic saga of a world threatened by evil incarnate builds steadily as separate strands of a complex plot begin to come together. Fans of this richly detailed and vividly imagined series will not be disappointed." (Library Journal)

I have loved this book series for many years. It is a cult classic and a great sci fi fantasy series. I read everyday and I am now listening to the whole series again. I love this series and even the new book written by another author after Robert Jordan died.

The continuing development of the story line is remarkable for a work of this size. There are anomalies (such as stating that the Lord of the Dark was imprisoned during the age of legends instead of at the creation of the world - this in the prologue), but characters are so rich and truly human in their anxieties and misinformed beliefs. I believe that any author would benefit from having his work read aloud to him to get the flavor of what he has produced.

The first four books are quite good and exciting. This, the fifth is boring.
Too much uninteresting dross to fill up the gaps between the action.
Action that does not happen much. This book could have been an extension to the last book without the dross.

The place where this book leads has me diving straight into the next. Not that this book isn't great in it's own right, but it is truly leading up to something much more. There are characters that are completely left out of this piece in the series that I wished had some sort of part in the whole of things, which was a bit disappointing. Yet, is a testament to the fact that I've grown to love most all of these creations of Jordan's.
