A powerful tale of grief, love’s enduring bonds, and secrets of the past set in the Castle Rock universe from #1 New York Times bestselling author and master storyteller Stephen King.

Four years after the sudden death of his wife, bestselling novelist Mike Noonan is still grieving. Unable to write and plagued by vivid nightmares set at the western Maine summerhouse he calls “Sara Laughs,” Mike reluctantly returns to the lakeside getaway.

There, he finds his beloved Yankee town held in the grip of a powerful millionaire, Max Devore, whose vindictive purpose is to take his three-year-old granddaughter, Kyra, away from her widowed young mother, Mattie. As Mike is drawn into Mattie’s and Kyra’s struggle—and as he falls in love with both of them—he is also drawn into the mystery of Sara Laughs…now the site of ghostly visitations and escalating terrors.

Great writing, with a deeply moving storyline. Psychological terror as it progresses -I held my breath at times hoping the inevitable would not happen with people I cared about. Everything works here- the narration by Stephen King is amazing.

Every once in awhile I come across a story that stays with me long after I read (listen) to it. In this case- if you don't listen- you will miss so much! I had listened to this one a long time ago, and for some reason failed to write a review. I re-listened last week, and enjoyed it just as much, if not more, the second time around.

The ghosts are terrifying, the cabin is spooky, the lake scared me, and some of the people too. Pretty amazing for a story that starts out with a tragic and sad storyline. King can send chills up my spine with the most innocent of events, no gore or slashing required.

Highly Recommended!

This was a great read. It's not my favorite Stephen King novel (that title belongs to Duma Key) but it was extremely enjoyable.

Like any story, there are little things I could pick at; these items however are small questions regarding plot turns that would give away aspects of the novel to reveal, and did not impinge on my enjoyment of the story overall. My only real complaint is the depiction of a physical assault towards the end that was far more graphic than I needed.

I always enjoy Stephen King as a narrator as well, and his reading definitely added to the experience.

Will this book end up on my top 10 list? Nope. But I enjoyed the time I spent "On the TR" and if you typically enjoy Stephen King, I think you will too.

I was very pleasantly surprised. King shows a different range in this book. The depth of characters and complex storylines demonstrate King's matrurity and mastery as a writer. This is a long story, with many plotlines and characters, but the characters remained interesting throughout. You really care about what happens to them, and that is what good fiction writing is all about.

A different King

This was my first Stephen King book ever. I had always been afraid to read his books but this one just looked interesting. I was VERY glad I listened to it, it had just the right amount of scare and no gore. The fact that he reads the story himself is great. It had me interested from the start and kept me interested the entire way through. I found myself wishing my commute was longer some days. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. If you've never listed to (or read) Stephen King before this is the one to try. I recommended it to a friend and she is enjoying it now just as much as I did. Oh, and the bonus interview with him at the end is interesting too.

EXCELLENT

Don't know what I was doing back in 1998 that made me miss this Stephen King book, but I'm rather glad to have the chance to listen to it now in 2012. Hearing King read the book was both intimate and chilling. Although the plot is supernatural (which I can't quite believe in), the characters are credible and I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.
