Publisher's Summary

We're all a little odd beneath the surface.

He's the most unlikely hero you'll ever meet, an ordinary guy with a modest job you might never look at twice. But there's so much more to any of us than meets the eye, and that goes triple for Odd Thomas. For Odd lives always between two worlds in the small desert town of Pico Mundo, where the heroic and the harrowing are everyday events. Odd never asked to communicate with the dead, it's something that just happened. But as the unofficial goodwill ambassador between our world and theirs, he's got a duty to do the right thing. That's the way Odd sees it, and that's why he's won hearts on both sides of the divide between life and death.

A childhood friend of Odd's has disappeared. The worst is feared. But as Odd applies his unique talents to the task of finding the missing person, he discovers something worse than a dead body, encounters an enemy of exceptional cunning, and spirals into a vortex of terror. Once again Odd will stand against our worst fears. Around him will gather new allies and old, some living and some not. For in the battle to come, there can be no innocent bystanders, and every sacrifice can tip the balance between despair and hope. Whether you're meeting Odd Thomas for the first time or he's already an old friend, you'll be led on an unforgettable journey through a world of terror, wonder, and delight, to a revelation that can change your life. And you can have no better guide than Odd Thomas.

What the Critics Say

"Odd's strange gifts, coupled with his intelligence and self-effacing humor, make him one of the most quietly authoritative characters in recent popular fiction." (Publishers Weekly)

From AudioFile

The aptly named Odd Thomas is not a detective but a quiet young man who sees ghosts and helps the police chief of his desert town solve crimes. Reader David Aaron Baker understands his character so well that he makes it easy to be completely drawn into Odd's world, in which his best friends are a morbidly obese mystery writer, a fatherly police chief, and the ghost of Elvis Presley. Baker's voice has an endearing gentle quality that perfectly suits the character. In the second Odd novel, an evil woman learns of his powers and will stop at nothing to exploit him. Murder is the least of her crimes. © AudioFile 2006

It is hard for a second book to continue a storyline and give you new stuff from character that you know. I think Koontz pulls it off. Forever Odd is good all on its own. If you haven't read or listened to the first book(I don't know why you haven't)you can pick up the series starting with this book without missing a beat. Most reviews will tell you that it wasn't as good as the first book, but what second anything ever is. If things had started with this book reviews would be just as glowing. Original potline, original new characters, and a good character evolution to Odd.

I describe it to my friends as Dirk Gently meets TV's Medium. The books are kind of spooky with a definite irreverence. You should definitely start with the first book (Odd Thomas) to get you hooked, and then this one will be more enjoyable.

Loved the character and am looking forward to the other 'odd' books. Although not especially scary and tingly as his other I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to get into the next one.

I enjoyed this book much more than Odd Thomas. This book is more exciting and brings in some anthropological subjects and a blood thirsty god that interests me reminds me of similar gods in Mesoamerican and pre-Inca cultures. The Odd Thomas character helps me reconsider my own beliefs and moral foundations. I find Odd Thomas a very likable character and look forward to the next book in the series. The narrator does an excellent job
