Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated.

Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

Reseñas de la Crítica
"This thoughtful, compassionate primer to helping children overcome social challenges from Maguire, a coach for children with ADHD and their families, puts a full roster of tools, along with some encouragement, into the hands of parents...breaks down an issue that can seem overwhelming into practical, bite-size chunks...comprehensive and usable." (Publishers Weekly)
"Over the past two decades, I have seen thousands of children in my practice with impaired social skills that have had significant negative effects on their lives, and ability to function in the world. In addition to the biomedical treatments I provide, social skills training is an essential part of their treatment programs. This book offers parents a practical approach to children's social isolation and awkwardness that could help so many of them lead more functional, harmonious, and fulfilling lives." (Kenneth Bock, author of Healing the New Childhood Epidemics Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies)
"This book provides tested and proven tools for consciously creating effective playdates for children with ADD/ADHD or other social skills deficits who struggle socially and don't know how to integrate their special, unique gifts more effectively so that they don't get buried and lost, damaging their self-esteem. This exceptional, life-changing book is a foundational piece essential for parents, enabling them to support their children by helping them improve and maintain important relationships with their friends and feeling good about themselves!!!" (David Giwerc, Master Certified ADHD Coach, MCAC, MCC, BCC, Founder/President, ADD Coach Academy)

Onward tackles the problem of educator stress, and provides a practical framework for taking the burnout out of teaching. Stress is part of the job, but when 70 percent of teachers quit within their first five years because the stress is making them physically and mentally ill, things have gone too far. Unsurprisingly, these effects are highest in difficult-to-fill positions such as math, science, and foreign languages, and in urban areas and secondary classrooms - places where we need our teachers to be especially motivated and engaged.

These families are understandably focused on correcting or improving a child’s lack of compliance, emotional outbursts, tantrums, and other “out of control” behavior. But, as she has shared with these families, a perspective shift is needed. Behavior, no matter how challenging, is not the problem but a symptom; a clue about what is happening in a child’s unique physiologic makeup.

Life changing!
I wish I had this book 5 years ago! The tools taught in this book are so helpful in navigating the tricky world our kids live in. This is a must read!

RESTORED HOPE
The frustrations of having invisible differences can be life long. So much of our cultural judgments, whether good or bad, come from what we see on the outside of a person. Caroline's wisdom and insight- to ASK the CHILD, then LISTEN to what they tell you. NOT ASSUMING, what is going on, or thinking we might be able to tell, based on what we see. So many people feel unable to express their true self/feelings, even as adults. Having this tried and true program, which Caroline has researched and refined over many years of experience, is such a gift to old or young, who will use it. I feel this book alone could save many children/young adults/ and adults from future negative mental health issues. Being heard and understood is one of lifes most basic needs. This book contains that vital gift! Thank you to Caroline for taking the time to look beyond the outside behavior, to find out how to dig deep, and see what is really happening underneath. BEST READ for me!

Very wordy! Little tangible information.
Three hours into the book and I haven’t learned anything. The author over explains how beneficial her program is with little guidance on implementation. I’m constantly waiting for the point to appear in each chapter.
