Publisher's summary
A young couple fleeing a criminal family confronts a reluctant assassin in this heart-pounding thriller from E.A. Aymar.
When Melissa Cruz falls hard for a dreamy-eyed photographer named Jake, she can’t resist the urge to run away with him. The problem is that she already has a boyfriend, a rising star in his family’s crime organization. Betrayed and humiliated, Chris isn’t going to just let her go.
To find Melissa, Chris turns to Lucky Wilson, one of his family’s professional assassins. But Lucky has his own problems. After years of lying about his day job, his marriage is in shambles and he suffers from relentless panic attacks. He’ll do this job if Chris will let him out of the killing life.
Lucky knows this is his best chance at salvaging the home life he always craved. But Melissa and Jake aren’t going to abandon their chance at something real—something they’ve both been lacking in their lives. But they aren’t the only ones desperate to survive, and a powerful criminal family isn’t the only danger.
And soon, it’s clear that an unlikely partnership might be the only way for any of them to make it out alive…
Critic reviews
“Janine Granda narrates this thriller about a woman and her lover who are on the run from a violent mob family.… Granda's narration skillfully balances the dramatic action of lovers on the run with the occasional moments of wicked humor in this fast-paced story. Granda's performance captures Melissa's fear and strength, Lucky's general neurotic suspicion, and rest of the bizarre and unique characters.”—AudioFile Magazine
“Aymar’s third book is instantly cinematic, opening with a skittish pair seated in a diner and quickly catapulting into a series of frantic chases and narrow escapes… This would appeal to fans of Elmore Leonard's and Jeff Lindsay's books and the Quentin Tarantino film Reservoir Dogs, with high-stakes violence tempered by humor and disarmingly sympathetic antiheroes.”—Booklist
“When She Left keeps you guessing with breakneck pacing and unexpected twists, but what truly stands out are the characters: quirky and flawed but endearing as hell. But be warned: in an E. A. Aymar novel, no character is safe. Ever.”—Alma Katsu, award-winning author of The Hunger and Red Widow

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Story
Summer, 2021. Nell has come home at her family's insistence to celebrate an anniversary. Fifty years ago, her father wrote The Golden Bones. Part picture book, part treasure hunt, Sir Frank Churcher created a fairy story about Elinore, a murdered woman whose skeleton was scattered all over England. Clues and puzzles in the pages of The Golden Bones led readers to seven sites where jewels were buried—gold and precious stones, each a different part of a skeleton. One by one, the tiny golden bones were dug up until only Elinore's pelvis remained hidden.

Great narrator, excellent thriller
When She Left was a fast thriller. Two kids in love on the run, a scary bunch of hitman on their tail, one of which is dealing with some intense domestic issues and is obsessed with Christmas Villages. Throw in rumors of a vigilante and a couple moms and you've got a story.

Boring
I made it to chapter 17 and gave up. The store seems to be going no where and it boring. Bummer because this came highly recommended.
