Story
When a box from her mother showed up on Katy Tur’s doorstep, months into the pandemic and just as she learned she was pregnant with her second child, she didn’t know what to expect. The box contained thousands of hours of video—the work of her pioneering helicopter journalist parents. They grew rich and famous for their aerial coverage of Madonna and Sean Penn’s secret wedding, the Reginald Denny beating in the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and O.J. Simpson’s notorious run in the white Bronco.

Story
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Story
In the more than five tumultuous, paradigm-shifting years of Donald Trump’s presidency and beyond, his near-constant lying has become a fixture of political life. It is inextricably linked with how his party behaves, how the Democrats respond to it, and how he remains relevant, even after a decisive loss in 2020. Jonathan Lemire brings his connections, profile, and reportorial instincts to bear in his first book that explores how this phenomenon shapes our politics. The Big Lie is the first audiobook to examine this unprecedented and tenuous moment in our nation’s politics.

Story
For almost three decades, Fox News has not only made political careers (see: President Donald J. Trump) but also fundamentally altered the political landscape of the United States. It is a truism: as Fox goes, so goes the nation—into further divisiveness and awash in fake news, a gleefully polarizing company. But just as Fox has pushed America apart, now it too is coming apart. As is the family dynasty behind it.

This prophecy will come true, according to Miles Taylor, if we do not learn the lessons of the recent past.

As one of the strategists behind the famous 2012 RNC “autopsy,” Miller conducts his own forensic study on the pungent carcass of the party he used to love, cutting into all the hubris, ambition, idiocy, desperation, and self-deception for everyone to see. In a bracingly honest reflection on both his own past work for the Republican Party and the contortions of his former peers in the GOP establishment, Miller draws a straight line between the actions of the 2000s GOP to the Republican political class's Trumpian takeover, including the horrors of January 6th.

I’ve been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

Publisher's summary
The NBC journalist who covered - and took fire from - Donald Trump on the campaign trail offers an inside look at the most shocking presidential election in American history.
Katy Tur was one of a select cadre of NBC reporters on the road during the grueling 2016 presidential campaign, reporting from small towns and venues across America for more than 16 months. At the beginning of the primaries, Tur was assigned the Trump campaign - a campaign widely considered a long shot by politicos and the media. But primary after primary, the novice outsider trumped his rivals and won the hearts and votes of many Republicans. His appeal to working-class whites, the GOP's traditional middle and upper middle class base, and conservative evangelicals took him all the way to the White House, astonishing the nation and the world.
Unbelievable is Tur's inside account of being embedded with the campaign, revealing what it was like to report on the most combative and volatile major party candidate ever to run for office and win. At first, Trump tried to charm Tur into providing fawning coverage. When that didn't work, he stooped to berating and shaming her, stoking the rage of his legion of supporters - many who threatened Tur and other penned-in reporters at his events. The vitriol reached such a fever pitch that following one rally, during which Trump launched a personal attack against her, the Secret Service had to accompany Tur to her car. But Katy was not alone. Millions of Americans watched in disbelief as Trump ordered Tur to "be quiet" during one of his many press conferences and called her "disgraceful", "third-rate", "not nice", and "Little Katy". In response, thousands of people across the country rushed to her defense, tweeting #imwithtur.
Intriguing, disturbing, and powerful, Unbelievable is an unprecedented eyewitness account of the 2016 election from an intelligent, dedicated journalist at the center of it - a thoughtful historical record that offers eye-opening insights and details on our political process, the media, and the mercurial 45th president of the United States.

When Barbara Walters launched The View, network executives told her that hosting it would tarnish her reputation. Instead, within 10 years, she’d revolutionized morning TV and made household names of her cohosts: Joy Behar, Star Jones, Meredith Vieira, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. But the daily chat fest didn’t just comment on the news. It became the news. And the headlines barely scratched the surface. Based on unprecedented access, award-winning journalist Ramin Setoodeh takes you backstage where the stars really spoke their minds.

Story
For all the monumental documentation that Watergate generated - uncountable volumes of committee records, court transcripts, and memoirs - it falls at last to a novelist to perform the work of inference (and invention) that allows us to solve some of the scandal’s greatest mysteries - who did erase those eighteen-and-a-half minutes of tape? - and to see this gaudy American catastrophe in its human entirety. In Watergate, Thomas Mallon conveys the drama and high comedy of the Nixon presidency through the urgent perspectives of seven characters we only thought we knew.

Jonathan Lemire brings his connections, profile, and reportorial instincts to bear in his first book that explores how this phenomenon shapes our politics. Confronted with inconsistencies in her story and the doubts of others, Marie broke down and said her story was a lie - a bid for attention. More than two years later, Colorado detectives pursued a serial rapist who photographed his victims, threatening to release the images online, and whose calculated steps to erase all physical evidence suggested he might be a soldier or a cop.

But as he led the probe into Donald Trump’s abuses of presidential power, Schiff came to the terrible conclusion that the principal threat to American democracy now came from within. In Midnight in Washington, Schiff argues that the Trump presidency has so weakened our institutions and compromised the Republican Party that the peril will last for years.

For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

In a bracingly honest reflection on both his own past work for the Republican Party and the contortions of his former peers in the GOP establishment, Miller draws a straight line between the actions of the 2000s GOP to the Republican political class's Trumpian takeover, including the horrors of January 6th.

I was hooked immediately. Enthralled till the end. I watched the past 2 years wondering what it was like for her. They cut to her everywhere, in front of Trump tower & all over. Trump would talk smack, and I could see she was not standing down or shrinking. Her reading of it was excellent, engaging. The way she jumps around in time allows you to really absorb every aspect compared to doing it linear. This is one of my favorite memoirs.

It is not about Him it is about Her
If your looking for the insiders look into what brought on the rise of Trump. What happen on the campaign trail, how he connected to people and proved the media wrong...then this is not your book. If you are looking for a book on the self obsessed life of a TV reporter then this is your book.
I had to stop 1/2 way. Here she is covering history in the making and she is whining about not being able to sleep in her own bed, missing her Italian vacation and eating bad food. Really? This is a Snow Flake's view of campaign life. Some may want that...I did not.

Really Unbelievable!
Amazing account of an incredible journey. Could not stop listening, even though I had watched it all unfold on MSNBC. Katie's thought processes and emotional reactions to the events were revealing. Super job!

This book is Unbelievable!
I really enjoyed this book a lot. Even though I knew how it turned out, it was great having an inside perspective to the campaign. If you thought you knew all the crazy stuff that Trump did, you're still in for some surprises. I love the chapter on her family background. and I like the format of how it went back and forth counting down election night and then back to the memories and experiences that led up to it. I wish Katie would do a book tour in Middle America so I could get a signed hard copy; this is a book I would consider reading again.

Tur shares what I most wanted to know.
I always felt for Katy and what she put up with from Trump during the campaign! loved the inside look at coverage of an insane campaign! kudos Katy for what you had to give up so we could hear the ridiculous Trump comments and lies. I love seeing you at the anchor desk! Congratulations on a great book!

Good to hear...
I watched much of her coverage of the election, and she was always professional about it. It was good to hear that Katy was as put off by Trump as so many of us were. If she can handle Trump, she can handle anything.

Truly Unbelievable
Katy nailed it. Her narrative is interesting, and her story is relevant. Watching the circus unfold before my own eyes through the whole trump campaign, it’s incredible how many mind boggling things he said or things that happened that disgusted me or even made my skin crawl... and listening to all of this through the journalists perspective is even more crazy. I’m inspired how Katy held her own, and kept her cool through some of the most impossible situations. I loved her take, and enjoyed her story from beginning to end.

A little braggidocio, considering the subject
Katy is an excellent writer and provides vivid accounts of her very unusual life growing up and her crazy two years following the Trump campaign for NBC. She exhausted me almost every chapter with the mind-numbing race to keep up with Trump and his ugly twists and turns. I couldn't help feeling like there was a part of Katy who liked being called out personally by Trump. It was difficult to hear what he was saying and read her non-reaction as a journalist. I wasn't sure where she was going with the continual badgering and abuse she received from Trump and his supporters. I wanted her to call him out but realized she couldn't. She certainly didn't paint a positive picture of him or his followers (yes it sounded like a cult).

Front Row Seat to Most Amazing Political Story of
An excellent blend of facts, personal anecdotes and inside info on the Trump campaign from beginning to end. Tur has great stories, some scary facts and an insight into the workings of TV News that few other recent books I've read have.
Her delivery, as you might imagine, is flawless.
Get past the notion of whether a reporter is "Pro" or "Anti Trump". That's not the way it works. This man is so different than anyone else who ever ran for the nation's highest office, it deserves close scrutiny.
Was sorry when it was over. Hope she stays as part of the national political reporting pool. This kind of insight is important.
