Publisher's summary

It's an idyllic late-summer day in Saddlestring, Wyoming, and game warden Joe Pickett is fly-fishing with his two daughters when he stumbles upon the mutilated body of a moose. Whatever - or whoever - attacked the animal was ruthless: half the animal's face has been sliced away, the skin peeled back from the flesh. Shaken by the sight, Joe starts to investigate what he hopes in an isolated incident.

Days later, after the discovery of a small herd of mutilated cattle, Joe realizes this is something much more terrifying than he could have imagined. Local authorities are quick to label the attacks the work of a grizzly bear, but Joe knows otherwise. The cuts on the moose and the cattle were too clean, too precise, to have been made by jagged teeth. Are the animals only practice for a killer about to move on to another, more challenging prey?

Soon afterward, Joe's worst fears are confirmed. The bodies of two men are found within hours of each other, in separate locations, their wounds eerily similar to those found on the moose and cattle. There's a vicious killer, a modern-day Jack the Ripper, on the loose in Saddlestring - and it appears his rampage is just beginning.

He's game: solve another mystery with Joe Pickett.

Just a great book in a great series

All the characters are becoming more and more rounded. We get more insight with each book in the series. If you like the Longmire series you'll love all of these too.

Go Nate

Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett is assigned to a cop task force whose objective is to solve a couple of murders and some cow mutilations. Author cleverly does not take sides in the latter. Of course, Joe's wife and kids are involved. Nate, my favorite character and an off-the-grid falconer, gives no quarter and reflects what we all want to do in the situation. Nate also provides a look at some paranormal activities and seems always to be the one who shows Joe the way. In the end, everyone in town seems involved in the murders/mutilations. Descriptive of small town Western America.

A Good Read

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read (listen). Had enough twists and turns to hold my interest. I've read several of the Joe Pickett books. Joe is just an ordinary guy, not super human, which is what I enjoy.

Just ok on this one

I really enjoyed the last Joe Pickett novel's. This one had good parts as well....but it seemed like Mr. Box just threw a bunch of ideas together and wasn't sure how to finish it up. I liked it and that's the best way to explain it without giving to much info...just don't have to many expectations of this being as good as the last few. I'm buying the next one now...

Trophy Hunt, a great story

The Joe Pickett Series is an interesting read/listen. I drive quite a bit, several long trips weekly. The stories are great in that they never fail to keep one alert.

Lots of charters

Sometimes hard to keep track of all the charters. Didn’t care for the super natural ending. What really did happen. I’m so confused.
