Publisher's summary
Seventeen-year-old Eleanor is nothing like her hero Eleanor Roosevelt. She is timid and all together uncertain that she has much to offer the world. And as World War II rages overseas, Eleanor is consumed with worry for her Jewish relatives in Europe. When a chance encounter proves her to be a one-in-a-generation math whiz—a fact she has worked hard all her life to hide—Eleanor gets recruited by the US Army and entrusted with the ultimate challenge: to fine-tune a top-secret weapon that will help America defeat its enemies in World War II and secure the world's freedom. This could be her chance to help save her family in Poland.
Soon, she's swept from the basement of an Ivy League engineering school, to the desert of California, to an Army Air Corps base at Pearl Harbor, and finally she takes to the skies above the South Pacific.
But before she can solve this complicated problem, she must learn to unlock a bigger mystery: herself.
Critically acclaimed author of The Poetry of Secrets, Cambria Gordon weaves an extraordinary story of remarkable courage and the will to unearth our deepest secrets, based on previously undiscovered true events.

Story
Isa de Smit was raised in the vibrant, glittering world of her parents' small art gallery in Amsterdam, a hub of beauty, creativity, and expression, until the Nazi occupation wiped the color from her city's palette. The "degenerate" art of the Gallery de Smit is confiscated, the artists in hiding or deported, her best friend, Truus, fled to join the shadowy Dutch resistance. And masterpiece by masterpiece, the Nazis are buying and stealing her country's heritage. So when the unpaid taxes threaten her beloved but empty gallery, Isa decides to make the Nazis pay.

Spectacular!!!
Weaving together, elements of history, science and human emotion trajectory holds particular significance for women offering reflection on the enduring struggle for recognition and equality in male- dominated fields. Through Eleanor‘s journey of self discovery and resilience, Gordon delivers a powerful message of empowerment, inspiring readers of all genders to embrace their passions and pursue their dreams with unwavering determination. At the center of Trajectory is Eleanor a girl who loves math, but has kept her talent hidden, but when she is recruited for the war effort, she leans into it and realizes what a difference she can make in the world. Trajectory is an entertaining book with a beautiful love story and many important themes. I couldn’t put it down!!!

Reading might have been better
I might have liked this book better if I had read it. The narrator was awful in my opinion. She made Eleanor sound like a twelve year old. Too much mathematics to hold interest in the personal stories of the characters. I will be curious to hear what the other book club members thought when we discuss it soon.
