Publisher's summary

One of Agatha Christie’s most famous novels, featuring her beloved Detective Hercule Poirot - and her most surprising twist.

The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson. But as the authorities home in on their most obvious suspect, the recently retired detective Hercule Poirot unexpectedly turns up and joins the fray. Dr. Sheppard gamely assists the legendary Poirot as he untangles one of the most fiendish mysteries in Christie’s extensive oeuvre.

Another great narration by Armitage

The story is a familiar one but the narration by Richard Armitage is so well done that one can enjoy the twists and turns even knowing the identity of the murderer.

shocking ending. loved it!

Agatha does it again. This has been the absolute best one I've read so far. I'd speculated it but then put it aside as nonsense. I love agathas work.

Bravo to the narrator and author.

Fabulous narration of one of Dame Agatha's best mysteries. Every town has a busy-body with a kind heart like Caroline Sheppard.

Details Details

It’s all in the details. Kept you thinking that’s for sure. Always a challenge to follow the accents but if you lower your audio speed it’s become much easier to follow.

A fabulous read.

I was looking for a light, enjoyable read, and this was perfect, containing mystery and intrigue that had me puzzled up until the end.

Excellent narration

An obvious Christie classic, the story is enhanced by the narrator’s treatment of Hercule Poirot, sounding exactly like my imagination had interpreted him.

Armitage knocked it out of the park AGAIN!

Just about everyone who's ever heard of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd has had it's ending spoiled for them. Despite this, Richard Armitage delivers such a powerful performance of Christie's masterful writing that I honestly didn't care that I already knew how it would end - the journey was just that good.

Highly recommended!

I had read this book a long time ago (too many years to count) but when I saw it available here on Audible PLUS the narrator was Richard Armitage, I couldn’t pass it up.
The story has stood the test of time.
This is a true classic and a must read!

A great mystery again

I thought the narrator was excellent Of course this is the usual, Agatha Christie you really get a surprise at the end you might say the least likely character is the killer.
