Story
Cole Riker is a Slip Runner. A contractor tasked with finding alien salvage in exchange for credits. For an ex-smuggler like Cole, there’s a catch: Don’t break the terms of parole. That means doing things by the book. Find salvage, turn it in, get paid. But everything changes when a retrieval mission lands him in a previously unknown sector. There, he finds the material he’s been sent to recover, along with something more. A brand-new form of ancient alien life.

Five years ago, aliens destroyed a carrier and its airwing at Jupiter without warning. Since then, the Earth’s nations have learned to work together, and they want to know more about the aliens who appeared, attacked, and vanished without a trace. The Americans have provided a new carrier. Chinese technology has made going after the invaders possible. And the Russians have developed a new control system that will give the craft never-before-seen capabilities. Mankind’s next war is upon us, and Uplink Squadron is the tip of the spear.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
My name is Alphonse Malloy, and I see everything. From a simple glance, I know your hobbies, what you ate for breakfast, how well you slept, and whether or not your wife is secretly seeing the high school biology teacher when you're not around. I can't explain how or why I get these feelings, only that I know they're true. All the little secrets you're too afraid to tell. Sometimes, that means helping people. Other times, it means staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. I wish I could tell you I was using this ability for good.

Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. Once, Jackson Rook was a war hero. Raised from boyhood to pilot an exosuit mech, he’d fought gallantly for the rebellion against the Collectivists. But that was a long time ago, on a world very far away. Now, Jackson Rook is a criminal, a smuggler on board the Multipurpose Supply Vehicle Tar Heel. His latest mission: steal a top-of-the-line mech called the Citadel and deliver it to the far-flung planet Swindle, a world so hostile even the air will kill you. The client: a man known only as the Warlord.

Doctor Benjamin Schröder was far from a man of action. In fact, he was a history teacher - chairman of the Castle Rock University history department - and if his life wasn't perfect, it was close. Until, that is the discussion of his star student Elzbietá Abramowski's dissertation on Operation Oz, the Pacific Allies' invasion of Vladivostok, was brutally interrupted. The psychotic episode that turned his entire world upside down struck with absolutely no warning, and it was more terrifying than anything he should have been able to imagine.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Suppose you read an 8 hour audio book with almost no plot.
What we have here is an 8 hour audio book with almost no plot. Lots of space military sci-fi action. Mechanically augmented super soldier kills all the bad guys, but secretly has a heart of gold. Not a bad formula even though it’s been done a thousand times. But in this case there is little plot. A few things happen in the last 30 minutes to set up the next book. Maybe a plot will develop if you keep going in the series, but as a stand alone book it’s pretty bad. I have to decide if this did enough to keep going; probably not. Ray Porter does a great job as usual.

Joe Ledger Lite
Benefits from the same great narrator Ray Porter, but that's as far as it goes. The story is weak, the action is weak, the character sounds like Joe Ledger but does not possess his depth or gravitas.
The shame is the character concept has so much potential! I mean the last reaper! A cybernetic space-age Steve Austin. Had the makings or at least in name, of a true badass could have been a bit more technical a bit more graphic and a bit more everything.

interesting dip into sci-fi
so this is a really good book and Ray Porter does amazing voice lines for basically all the characters. I actually found this book because of his previous works in the Tyrus Rex series and that's what brought me here. I'm quite curious to see where this story goes because it started us off with our main character I won't spoil anything but leaves us in an interesting place . i can't wait to read the next book and see what happens

Another Renegade Star Character fleshed out
Loved it, as he just showed up in the last book of The Renegade Star series. It's nice to see characters have their own small series and how they be and involved with the Renegade Star and Captain.

Descriptions of battles
Some science but mostly first person shooter perspectives and descriptions. Not engaging for me. Seeking more nuance and intrigue

Great Performance and Non-Stop Action
Very fast paced story in the renegade-verse and a wonderful performance by Ray Porter that perfectly captures the smart-ass badass of JN Chaney. Can’t wait for the next one so long as it isn’t the same basic plot as Renegade Star.
