Story
Our increasingly complicated lifestyle demands clear and constructive thinking: making decisions, making choices, taking initiatives, and being creative. Watching television for 20 to 30 hours a week, as many children do, results in a passive mind that can only copy what others are doing (including drugs, sex, and violence). Give your children a better chance in life. Thinking is a skill...even a superior brain is wasted without it. You can start to teach your children to think - now.

You might believe you’re thinking clearly in the moments that matter most. But in all likelihood, when the pressure is on, you won’t be thinking at all. And your subsequent actions will inevitably move you further from the results you ultimately seek—love, belonging, success, wealth, victory. According to Farnam Street founder Shane Parrish, we must get better at recognizing these opportunities for what they are, and deploying our cognitive ability in order to achieve the life we want.

However, being a 10X entrepreneur is nothing like what most people think.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Even the smartest among us can feel inept as we fail to figure out which light switch or oven burner to turn on, or whether to push, pull, or slide a door. The fault, argues this ingenious - even liberating - audiobook, lies not in ourselves, but in product design that ignores the needs of users and the principles of cognitive psychology. The Design of Everyday Things shows that good, usable design is possible. The rules are simple: make things visible, exploit natural relationships that couple function and control, and make intelligent use of constraints.

Publisher's summary
Used successfully by thousands of business managers, educators, and government leaders around the world, Six Thinking Hats offers a practical and uniquely positive approach to making decisions and exploring new ideas.
Your success depends on how you think. "The main difficulty of thinking is confusion," writes Edward de Bono, long recognized as an international authority on conceptual thinking and on the teaching of thinking as a skill. "We try to do too much at once. Emotions, information, logic, hope, and creativity all crowd in on us. It is like juggling with too many balls." The solution? De Bono unscrambles the thinking process with his "six thinking hats":
- WHITE HAT: neutral and objective, concerned with facts and figures
- RED HAT: the emotional view
- BLACK HAT: careful and cautious
- YELLOW HAT: sunny and positive
- GREEN HAT: associated with fertile growth, creativity, and new ideas
- BLUE HAT: cool, the color of the sky, above everything else-the organizing hat
Through case studies and real-life examples, Dr. de Bono reveals the often surprising ways in which deliberate role playing can make you a better thinker. He offers a powerfully simple tool that you can use to create clearer thinking, improved communication, and greater creativity. This audio edition of his timeless book is an instructive and inspiring text for anyone who makes decisions, in business or in life.
This audiobook is skillfully narrated by Mike Fraser, an Audible listener favorite. Published with permission from Edward de Bono Ltd. Information on training in the Six Thinking Hats is available at www.deBono.com.

Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are powerful reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the reality that we're all in this together.

For most of my guests, it’s the first time they’ve agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview.

The world is full of problems and conflicts. So why can we not solve them? According to Edward de Bono, world thinking cannot solve world problems because world thinking is itself the problem. And this is getting worse: we are so accustomed to readily available information online that we search immediately for the answers rather than thinking about them. Our minds function like trying to drive a car using only one wheel.

If you're like most people, you think that your choices and behaviors are driven by your individual personal tastes and opinions. You wear a certain jacket because you like the way it looks. You picked a particular career because you found it interesting. The notion that our choices are driven by our own personal thoughts and opinions is patently obvious. Right? Wrong. Without our realizing it, other people's behavior has a huge influence on everything we do at every moment of our lives, from the mundane to the momentous occasion.

A method for tackling complexity in thinking
I have been trying to figure out how to get my leadership team to be better organised in both strategic and operational-type meetings. Of course, there are plenty guides and tips like Patrick Lencioni’s “Death by Meeting” that I have embraced with reasonable success. The 6 hats method is remarkable in its depth of dissecting thinking, itself, and doing so in a very straightforward manner that is not encumbered by technical jargon! I now have additional tools to make these meetings more constructive and productive!

Everyone needs to read this.
Whether you are in meetings for work or making group decisions at home, you need to read and apply the six thinking hats. De Bono makes it painfully obvious that the argumentative style of most meetings is counterproductive and demoralizing. The Six Thinking Hats gives you a new way to think about thinking.

Nice production and immensely interesting 🌺 some of the HATS overlap I surmise. Interesting that in BLUE the author mentioned that some people proceed this way when thinking alone.
