Publisher's summary

Grand Prizewinner - 2023 Nautilius Book Award

One of the essential books of our time, Reclaiming the Sacred draws on the work of thousands of psychologists and economists, cosmologists and activists, saints and poets to ground us in our inherent joy, purpose, and belonging—both for our own sakes and the sake of the world.

It starts with an overview of the science of happiness, highlighting the things that most nourish human well-being—and some that don’t, most notably money and possessions. It goes on to examine the ways money nonetheless hooks so many of us, and the profound consequences our materialism has for us and the world—most critically the global climate crisis.

And then it goes beyond all of that, diving into the very heart of ourselves and the world, taking us on an exhilarating journey—both scientific and mystical—of reclaiming the sacredness of ourselves and this gorgeous world. This book elevates our existence, and lays an essential foundation for transcending this most critical era in human history.

Thoughtful, thought-provoking, & uplifting

A sweeping and engaging literature review of existing research on happiness begins this book. A compelling case for self-compassion ends it. These bookend much thoughtful analysis of our complex and, frankly, broken human relationship with everything around us - for the environment to each other. Beautifully read.

An important book for our time

This is a moving and beautiful book that drew me on and pulled me forward. I listened on my daily walks. at first I wondered if there were too many quotes but as I settled in they added perspective and beauty as was Mr Golden's writing.

This is a book about action on the world unlike some books on the sacred that simply encourage us to know ourselves. this book encouraged me in my work to build a better world.

The quotes in later chapters about the sacred loving each of us were beautiful. As I finish reading, I am left with a desire to connect with myself, my family, my community and the world more.
