Editorial reviews

Editors Select, March 2014 - While not my go-to genre, every now and then I like to sit back and take in a good mystery/thriller. So, when I saw that Harlan Coben was coming out with a new stand-alone novel, I felt it was the perfect time to try out something new from an author I knew well by reputation (through countless rave reviews from Audible members) but never read or listened to personally. Missing Youwas exactly what I was hoping for: a cleverly conceived, suspenseful thrill-ride with cops and bad guys. There's a taken-from-the-headlines sense to the story where 40-year-old NYPD detective, Kat Donovan, discovers an old love and stumbles upon a possible gateway into a mysterious crime world through an online dating site her friend signs her up for. If you are looking for some smart entertainment and the kind of book you just can't put down, I can highly recommend Missing You. For anyone who is already a Coben fan, Missing You offers something new in a strong female protagonist, and a strong female narrator in January LaVoy to boot! Tricia, Audible Editor

Not what I had hoped...

I am new to Harlan Coben, and I had hoped to really love his work. If this is any indication I won't be trying others. The main character is a mopey, not so bright female detective who spends most of the book pining for a man who dumped her 18 years ago. A feminist manifesto it's not. I would call it mildly distracting. Pass.

HOOKED ON HARLAN!!!

I really enjoy his writing! Great sense of humor, heart pounding plot twisting, and good message for perception of life & relationships......
LaVoy intriguingly captures Coben's writing.....

Another Masterpiece

Coben never fails to entice us! The hook is never where you expect it and just when you think you've got him figured out he proves why he's writing and we are reading!

suspenceful

Honestly, there are great storylines and great narrators. Sometimes, you are lucky enough to get both! This audio book nailed it! I was listening to this book while packing for a move. Everyone was bustling about the house. At one point, I turned the audio off to do something and hubby and boys yelled from their respective locations to turn it back on! My husband laughed at me when I was scolding at the characters. You won't be sorry on this mystery thriller.

Slow at first, but ended well

Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or January LaVoy?

Perhaps. I have to say though that his female lead - Kat was a really annoying character initially. So much whining, weakness, chronically emotionally messed up. It was a bit over the top. She is a policewoman! buck up! geesh.
It really was annoying, but I stuck with the book and ultimately I am glad that I did. The story was great....

Would you recommend Missing You to your friends? Why or why not?

yes

Have you listened to any of January LaVoy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no i haven't, however, I think she did a great job.

Best book by harlen coven.

Out of all his book I would definitely say this was his best. I never write reviews but I had to for this book.

I Loved It!

Any additional comments?

As usual with Harlan Coben's books, this hit a home run. It started a little slow, compared to some of his others, so I thought I might should have paid attention to some of the negative reviews. Glad I didn't! Once I got past the first 40 minutes or so, it did not disappoint. I love that he has the ability to tell an amazing story without the need to throw in explicit sex scenes. Great author....great book!

not a great narration/performance

Predictable story and the narration was really mediocre. First H.C. book I have read... unimpressed.
