Vampires have always lived in Eastern Europe. But with the fall of the Soviet Union, they began to spread across the continent, then the world, turning whole populations into vampires - or human cattle. In a town on the New Jersey shore, the vampires have just arrived, along with their human henchmen, the cowboys, who round up human cattle for the overlords in return for the promise of eternal life - later. Falsely accused of abuse, Father Joe is drunk in a basement waiting for the end. His superior has betrayed the local Catholic congregation and become a vampire. Sister Carolyn has become a formidable killer of cowboys and vampires. Joe's niece, escaped from the conquest of New York, has made her way south to find him. Brought together by Rabbi Zev Wolpin, who is shaken by the vampires’ fear of the cross and holy water, they plan their resistance. Against all odds, they discover that there just might be a way for humanity to really fight back. But first they will have to kill the vampire king of New York.

One of my absolute favorite books!

One of my absolute favorite books! I have read it dozens of times had to purchase several copies and I'm very excited to now have it and in audio format!

Honestly good idea not well done

Really weird how this guy described women’s body’s. It’s just super uncomfortable and takes away from the story.

vampires are inherently a Christian monster so I was confused by the people upset about the Christian undertones. If you are trying to stick to original vampire lore you have to have Christian undertones. this story is completely different than the Netflix TV series. honestly not sure where they got that storyline from. only similarities are character names and the description of elder vampires. this is a good book otherwise I would recommend it.

Good vampire content, oddly Islamiphobic

Enjoyed the story overall, increasingly dumb character decisions included, but there were many moments that made me uncomfortable—
such as the very casual depictions/discussions of rape, along with the insistent Islam-bashing by both the human and vampire characters. The audiobook said it was produced 2019/2020 but the story also really romanticized the world trade towers/911 to an odd degree as well, maybe the book was released in the early 2000s, idk, and I can’t be bothered to check.

Great story and characters very captivating plot and one of my new favorite horror writers

This was such a good book and an amazing reading of it. I liked the Netflix series but this was even better!

pretty good for a free book

narrator was good. story is engaging. characters are likeable.
the premise of a looming vampire apocalypse is good. a little melodramatic, but enjoyable.

I’ve read many vampire books, this was included, so I downloaded it and enjoyed the read.

Great listen

I truly found this book to be vastly entertaining and a breath of fresh air for the vampire genre. I remember how much I enjoyed the Netflix adaptation and this book is even better. Loved the voice work as well.

Excellent spin on vampires!

I loved that this wasn't the usual vampire book, it was exciting I didn't want to put it down!
