Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. Story
As the only hedgewitch in Blackthorn, Massachusetts―an uncommonly magical place―Aziza El-Amin has bargained with wood nymphs, rescued palm-sized fairies from house cats, banished flesh-eating shadows from the local park. But when a dark entity awakens in the forest outside of town, eroding the invisible boundary between the human world and fairyland, run-of-the-mill fae mischief turns into outright aggression, and the danger―to herself and others―becomes too great for her to handle alone.

Story
Welcome to Tiankawi - shining pearl of human civilization and a safe haven for those fleeing civil unrest. Or at least, that's how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city, humans are, quite literally, on top: peering down from shining towers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk - sirens, seawitches, kelpies and kappas - who live in the polluted waters below. For half-siren Mira, promotion to captain of the border guard means an opportunity to help her downtrodden people. When extremists sabotage the annual boat race, violence erupts, as does the clampdown on fathomfolk rights.

One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. Story
On the remote isle of Rosevear, Mira, like her mother before her, is a wrecker, one of the seven on the rope who swim out to shipwrecks to plunder them. Mira’s job is to rescue survivors, if there are any. After all, she never feels the cold of the frigid ocean waters and the waves seem to sing to her soul. But the people of Rosevear never admit the truth: that they set the beacons themselves to lure ships into the rocks. When the Council watch lays a trap to put an end to the wrecking, they arrest Mira’s father. Desperate to save him from the noose, Mira strikes a deal.

Story
All Momo wants for her twelfth birthday is an ordinary life—like everyone else's. At home, she has to take care of her absentminded widowed mother. At school, kids ridicule her for mixing up reality with the magical stories her mother used to tell her. But then Momo’s mother falls gravely ill, and a death hag straight out of those childhood stories attacks Momo at the mall, where she’s rescued by a talking fox . . . and “ordinary” goes out the window. It turns out that Momo's mother is a banished Shinto goddess who used to protect a passageway to the land of the dead.

One Last Adventure
This is comparable to the Lord of the Rings. It is a wrap up to the series and the characters and storyline dont dissappoint. I plan on reading the authors other books.

From a mediocre series to a 4.5 finale
Our heroes are scattered and must find their way back to each other. All the alliances lost and made gather in Iona for one final battle that will decide the fate of the realm entire. Whatever weaknesses the first two books had, if you’ve read this far on, will be forgiven here.
There was enough dramatic tension and significant action to keep me listening until the final battle. And as for that—more than most of her peers, Victoria Aveyard choreographs very well. It was already four in the morning where I was but I sacrificed a bit more sleep to know how it finishes. The two plot twists at the end were worth it.
Whatever flimsy themes were threaded insufficiently through the first two books become fully fleshed out here. Satisfying but a little too late for us readers. However, the emotional dynamics of the characters (which has been the saving grace of this trilogy from book 1) start paying off as the orchestra of characters and their histories come head to head in a way that is meaningful and excellently handled.
