Story
Welcome to Tiankawi - shining pearl of human civilization and a safe haven for those fleeing civil unrest. Or at least, that's how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city, humans are, quite literally, on top: peering down from shining towers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk - sirens, seawitches, kelpies and kappas - who live in the polluted waters below. For half-siren Mira, promotion to captain of the border guard means an opportunity to help her downtrodden people. When extremists sabotage the annual boat race, violence erupts, as does the clampdown on fathomfolk rights.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

But as one of the few half-orcs left in the world, she knows she'll never be free, much less find her own happily ever after. Destiny takes an unexpected turn when the emperor offers her a deal. To earn her freedom, she must journey to the mysterious Isles of Fable and track down wielders of outlawed dragon magic. Eager to seize her chance, Daella agrees.

In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. I liked the lgtbq representation and the effortless inclusion. However it was a constant battle do to the childish style of narration. Also found the ending very rushed compared to rest of the book

Interesting story, narrator is meh
This was a great story, interesting and I was genuinely surprised by some of the twists. The narrator on the other hand almost made me quit a few times. I think they would make a better narrator for children’s stories.

Narrator made this miss the mark
This had a lot of potential with the setting, world building, and lore, but the narrator gave everyone really juvenile voices. It ruined the story. Felt like I was listening to a book for elementary school kids.

The story was so good 😊
The story was so good 😊 Except Lettle is voiced so annoyingly I was actually contemplating returning the book especially because the main characters name is pronounced so similar to urine. It’s spelt Yeeran. I only suffered through it because the story was so good. Slow burn lesbian enemies to lovers. And something for everyone.

Great Start 2 a Series
This is the first book in a new series from the author of The Final Strife. The way that the MC & her sister love & fight for each other is wonderful. On a personal note they are the same number of years apart as me & my sister.
The beginning of the book moved kind of slow but picked up close to the middle of the book. The book had many surprises that I didn't see coming towards the end of the book. This definitely made me as a reader longing for the second book in the series. This was a definite 5 🌟 read for me. I continue to enjoy this author's writing.

Inclusive, Magic!
I loved this story, the 3……Humans, elves, and Fae and how they came to be! The Fae and how they were spiritually bound to “beast” and the land! Cursed!?
I don’t even know if I can explain the power in the truth of this story and how it relates to our world. I look forward to the next book, needing to learn more about this world and Lettle who is hands down my favorite character.
With most fantasy books I can almost predict what will happen next, in this book I was constantly guessing! I would have never expected things to end in such a way! Fate is a funny thing!
