Publisher's summary

A practical guide to letting go of the character defects that get in the way of true and joyful recovery.

Resentment. Fear. Self-pity. Intolerance. Anger. As Bill P. explains, these are the "rocks" that can sink recovery - or at the least, block further progress. Based on the principles behind "Steps Six and Seven", Drop the Rock combines personal stories, practical advice, and powerful insights to help listeners move forward in recovery. The second edition features additional stories and a reference section.

Great listen while working on Steps 6 and 7

Used as a supplement material when working through the big book and step work in AA.
Drop the rock provides real anecdotes that help you call yourself out and recognize those character defects. Always a good listen in the background if you just need something to keep your mind right.
Narrator wasn’t really my cup of tea, but it’s not too hard to get through.

5 star content but did AI read this?

Probably my character defect of “intolerance” speaking here, but this reading feels AI generated. The pauses are weird, the breaks in sentences… it has to be an AI generated audio.

Our defects… many times…. … are our best friends.

Like, so AI generated. lol. Oh well, the words are still meaningful and helpful. I’m 199 days sober today so I have a lifetime of holding onto my character defects and my “intolerance” is one of my best old friends, who was introduced to me by my father.

Time to change.

The entire thing was so helpful. I’m so glad I got this as my first audible book.

I only know this because I’m reading along with the book

I bought the audiobook and the actual book so I can read along while I listened and underline as needed. The narrator’s voice was soothing and calm. However, there were areas where the narrator made reading errors. Someone who wasn’t following with the book wouldn’t realize, but it was very apparent for me. A word changed here and there. At a few times, it changed the context of the sentence. Might be minor in the larger context of things. The actual storyline was excellent though. Really helpful and a great complement to Steps 6 and 7.

Great book for people in recovery. Recommended by my sponsor.

The audiobook was very good. There were a few errors and miss spoken parts but overall it was good. The pacing I wish was a little better. Sometimes the sentences would have very little break in between and it was hard to transition from one idea to another. The book is kind of written in a very simple and dense way such that lots of sentences how are very profound and require contemplation. So this is a good way to get the overview of the ideas of the book without spending the time to read it… But I would definitely recommend to read the book instead of the audiobook overall. For reference I’ve been in recovery for about four years and this is my second time working step six and seven. First time reading drop the rock.
