Resumen del Editor

From Atlanta's wealthiest suburbs to its stark inner-city housing projects, a killer has crossed the boundaries of wealth and race. And the people who are chasing him must cross those boundaries, too. Among them is Michael Ormewood, a veteran detective whose marriage is hanging by a thread and whose arrogance and explosive temper are threatening his career. And Angie Polaski, a beautiful vice cop who was once Michael's lover before she became his enemy. But unbeknownst to both of them, another player has entered the game: a loser ex-con who has stumbled upon the killer's trail in the most coincidental of ways and who may be the key to breaking the case wide open.

In this gritty, gripping firecracker of a novel, the author of the best-selling Grant County, Georgia, series breaks thrilling new ground, weaving together the threads of a complex, multilayered story with the skill of a master craftsman. Packed with body-bending switchbacks, searing psychological suspense and human emotions, Triptych ratchets up the tension one revelation at a time as it races to a shattering and unforgettable climax.

Creative thriller, but really dark

This story was impressive in the way that it revealed details and brought together seemingly disparate stories. It held my attention and had me on the edge of my seat much of the time. I listen almost exclusively to thrillers, but have to share that this one was more difficult to listen to than most. The content was quite dark and disturbing, the descriptions of which were vivid. I almost felt as if it should come with a content warning (though one can expect violence and depravity in any thriller I suppose), which is what ultimately motivated me to write a short review. I found myself cringing much more than usual while listening and having the details make me wary to sleep, particularly the descriptions of rape.

Otherwise, I liked the main characters despite them being voiced with a southern accent that was grating and overdone and will likely continue with this series to follow what happens to them. It’s a good book, just listen knowing what you’re getting into!

Predictable

I did enjoy the book but I realize I prefer a female narrator. His voice is so deep it took some time to get into it. The story was predictable.

Good narration

I like the story and Michael Kramer's narration. I can't wait to listen to the other Will Trent's series.

My First K.Slaughter book

Would you consider the audio edition of Triptych to be better than the print version?

Sometimes I think I'd prefer the book to audible when there is too much fill-in dialogue. I would skim through it quickly if I was reading.

What did you like best about this story?

The development of the characters. It took a bit to get into it but then I couldn't stop listening.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction but Slaughter did a good job of having you connect with the characters

Any additional comments?

It was a little hard to believe the extent of Will's dyslexia and that he could hide it.

Haunting

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I listened to this book years ago and yet it crosses my mind, when listening to others, newscasts, debates or overhear conversations. It has made me tolerant of differences and how things are not always what you see hear, and believe

Great story; just ok narration

I love Karin Slaughter’s stories, character development, and the way she interjects little bits of humor all throughout her books. A little levity is welcome in tales that are often quite dark and disturbing. The narrator was, unfortunately, not quite right here. I am a native of Atlanta, born at Piedmont Hospital, and raised here as well. Being a ‘63 model, I’ve had ample time to become quite familiar with the various accents of our fair city, and believe me, not everyone from Atlanta - or even much of Ga - speaks with such a looong southern drawl as Mr. Kramer apparently thinks. His female characters are especially slloowwww in the dialogue delivery. I felt I was listening to backwater farm folk (no offense intended☺️) with every single voice he performed. It’s not that he is not good, I just don’t think he’s right for these characters. Thank you Ms. Slaughter for such great storylines and in depth characters!

Not What I Expected

Would you consider the audio edition of Triptych to be better than the print version?

N/A

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes the plot was awesome, I was constantly wondering what will happen next and who will be involved.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't want to give anything away, but when the character talks about his first 30 days in and knowing the truth made it worse. Also the way the character was treated by his family after everything took place.

Any additional comments?

Awesome book, amazing the parents roll and so different. Also how alone the main character life was spent.

Great Book, Great Narrator

This story was SO good and the narrator Michael Kramer read all of the parts so convincingly, that both he and the author Karen Slaughter are now two of my favorites. The story starts out pretty harsh and this is not a book you would want to listen to in the car with your children. But if you stick with it, I think you'll be glad you did. . . I know I was!

Excellent first book of a series

The plot of the story was set at a good pace, with an excellent twist to keep the reader interested in the story line. Plus, the underlying family "drama" added good color that developed characters in a solid way.

The main character's background was approached unobtrusively and subtly, giving the reader enough good information to become invested enough to want to read or listen to another book he is involved in.
