Resumen del Editor

From the number one New York Times best-selling author of A Discovery of Witches - now a hit TV series on AMC and BBC America and streaming on Sundance Now and Shudder - the fourth novel in the All Souls series. What does it truly take to become a vampire?

On the battlefields of the American Revolution, Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus MacNeil, a young surgeon from Massachusetts, during a moment of political awakening when it seems that the world is on the brink of a brighter future. When Matthew offers him a chance at immortality and a new life free from the restraints of his puritanical upbringing, Marcus seizes the opportunity to become a vampire. But his transformation is not an easy one, and the ancient traditions and responsibilities of the de Clermont family clash with Marcus's deeply held beliefs in liberty, equality, and brotherhood.

Fast-forward to contemporary Paris, where Phoebe Taylor - the young employee at Sotheby's whom Marcus has fallen for - is about to embark on her own journey to immortality. Though the modernized version of the process at first seems uncomplicated, the couple discovers that the challenges facing a human who wishes to be a vampire are no less formidable than they were in the 18th century. The shadows that Marcus believed he'd escaped centuries ago may return to haunt them both - forever.

A passionate love story and a fascinating exploration of the power of tradition and the possibilities not just for change but for revolution. Time's Convert, the fourth book in the All Souls series, channels the supernatural world-building and slow-burning romance that made the previous books instant best sellers to illuminate a new and vital moment in history, and a love affair that will bridge centuries.

Where is Jennifer Ikeda?

The change of narrator is spoiling this book. It's so hard to listen to when it is supposed to read as a continuation of the series but the voices, accents, tempo, everything is off. Saskia's reading of it is very flat and makes this sound unrefined and like fanfiction vs. one of Deborah Harkness' books. I'm having trouble believing or having sympathy for the characters and what they are going through as her voice doesnt convey the emotions and the severity of the situation. In the past books, I would "feel" for the characters and be so much more invested. A shame. Can Jennifer Ikeda rerecord the book?

Marcus's Story, as expected, but ........

I absolutely love the Discovery of Witches trilogy. Apparently I also love Jennifer Ikeda's voice. She is not reading Time's Convert and it is difficult to "hear" all of the characters I've come to know and love because I have heard them sound the same for all three books. How I'm listening to someone else read and she does not capture the characters in a way that gently eases into a new set of voice renditions. It's as bad as when Audible replaced Davina Porter with Geraldine James in the Outlander series. HORRIBLE decision. They fixed that though, by having Davina record all the books. (Thank you, Audible.) Hopefully Penguin Audible will come to their senses and get Jennifer to read this book and any others that may be coming. I will purchase it a second time of they do,because this one is very difficult on the ears after having spent so much time with Jennifer! That said, the story is very well researched and I can easily "see" the stage the characters are on, which makes for a better experience. One specific note: as a cat lover i really appreciate how the cat scene with Phoebe played out.

meh....

it was not anywhere near as good as the other three books! I think they should have had Jennifer Ikeda back again. The characters didn't sound right for me, especially Miriam.

Not quite...

Having been a huge fan of the All Souls Trilogy, I was very excited to find that Deborah Harkness had decided to continue the story. But alas, I was disappointed in the performance and the story. The previous narrator, Jennifer Ikeda, was exquisite in her performance of the variety of characters and their accents, making the come alive in the reader’s imagination, but this narrator did not have the repertoire of accents or the range of tone to make the characters any more than just average. As far as the story goes, it would be extremely difficult for anyone who had not read the previous three books to keep all of the characters and their relationships to each other straight. Likewise, there didn’t seem to be a real climax. I’m thinking that this story was just the exposition stage of the larger story arc, but as far as a stand alone book, it was not satisfying.
I hope that the next installment will have a quicker pace and a little more excitement. I’m still a fan; just not quite as enthusiastic as I was before.

Performance

I did not like Saskia Maarleveld performance. Jennifer Ikeda did a much better job. Saskia performance made all the characters sound the same especially the men. The story was good but not as good as the previous 3 books.

Must read, can’t wait to hear more!

I absolutely loved the story line!!! I love how Deborah takes historical events and tells a story about how the de Claremont’s played a role in history. I loved getting to hear more about the Bishop-Claremont family and Marcus’ history! I really hope Deborah Harkness continues to write more about the whole family, I would love to hear more about the twins, Marcus and Phoebe making his childhood home their home and how Matthew and Diana handle her aging while Matthew does not.

just give it a listen!

I read the reviews and almost didn't purchase it. Many negative reviews about narrator but I enjoyed it as much as previous series books.

Had so much hope

I love the All Souls Trilogy and was so happy when I saw this book. Narrator was awful and was pronouncing names differently then the other books. I wasn’t as Impressed.
