Simon St Clair. Wait till you reach that part of the play when Simon describes his latest novel, Instead of a Novel. Having chosen this character, I would like to add that I adore the other two as well: Leo Rapkin and Maude Locket.

David Lodge forayed into playwriting only three times in his life and this is one of the best attempts. It's totally hilarious and helps us to see academia through the lens of tutors as well as successful writers. How funny the world of academia can be as one has to be chummy to one and all in order to survive. LA Theatre company has done a very good job with it.

Nowhere near as good as his novels
I don’t understand why Audible doesn’t offer any of David Lodge’s wonderful comic novels and instead includes this stagey, badly acted play with artificial sounding dialogue.
