Resumen del Editor

UPDATE: In response to listener feedback, this audio edition of The Red Book has now been revised to exclude footnotes in the reading.

An audio edition of the famous Red Book text and essay.

The Red Book, published to wide acclaim in 2009, contains the nucleus of C. G. Jung's later works. It was here that he developed his principal theories of the archetypes, the collective unconscious, and the process of individuation that would transform psychotherapy from treatment of the sick into a means for the higher development of the personality.

As Sara Corbett wrote in the New York Times, "The creation of one of modern history's true visionaries, The Red Book is a singular work, outside of categorization. As an inquiry into what it means to be human, it transcends the history of psychoanalysis and underscores Jung's place among revolutionary thinkers like Marx, Orwell and, of course, Freud."

The Red Book: A Reader's Edition features Sonu Shamdasani's introductory essay and the full translation of Jung's vital work in one audiobook. The Red Book is skillfully narrated by Mike Fraser.

Controlled descent into madness

Were I not familiar with Jung as a serious, rational, scientific mind; and but for the second layer unpacking of each of the bizarre and seemingly random entries, I would have thought this to be the work of a madman.

I strongly suggest reading as much of Jung’s straightforward psychological writing as you can to prepare yourself for the deluge of seemingly disjointed archetypal imagery presented herein. I’ve read a lot, and I found myself bouncing off and skittering over several sections.

CG Jung was an absolute madlad, and this book is his detailed account of what happens when then abyss stares back at you, and you don’t blink.

Captivating

I could stop listening.

The first part covers the lead up to the writing, and repeats what seems the same thing.

Once Libra Novas started you can’t put it down, it captures your being.

Well Worth The Time

The Liber Novus brings great insight into Jung’s other works. His personal visions gave him an understanding of Self and the psyche. This book has been enlightening to consider all parts of us and our human experience.

this is not for everyone

you don't have to be particularly intelligent, but you have to have some background in a subject material

Carl Jung in his life and works has created an amazing amalgam of psychology and spirituality. In fact I do believe it is the first-of-its-kind.

It means I will be taking a new tangent in the way I look at the world.

Excellent.

I just finished this book I listened at 1.2 or 1.3 speed almost all the way through. The performance was fantastic, there are so many revelations that I am very excited to wait a week or so and complete it all over again.

A beautiful delve into the psyche of Jung and self

It’s difficult to follow and understand what he’s trying to say. It’s not meant for everyone by any means. It takes a special way of thinking bordering on madness to understand but if you take what he’s saying and can understand you’ll see the wisdom in what he’s trying to say.

I feel as if he’s examining himself against himself personified by mythical and historical beings. I’m examining himself and his observations of others and his knowledge of mythology and history he’s able to get to the root of many deep seated psychological commonality’s in humanity.

The Beginning of Jung…

A wonderful narration of Jung’s Red Book. I also found a YouTube channel, Humble U Media, which provides detailed commentary on Jung’s entries. Thank you Audible

Wonderful

This book was wonderful for me as I’m deeply interested in Jung’s work. Please note that the recording and chapter guide do not match once you get to the Scrutinies section. It seems they recorded some of it twice. The whole book is there it’s just off.
