Fable Isn't That Captivating

Some readers might like lessons illustrated through a story but I found that the fable used isn't that captivating. It teaches the seven virtues through a fable about a sumo wrestler in a garden with elements in the garden to symbolize each of the seven virtues:
- Master your mind (think good thoughts) like sowing good seeds in the garden.
- Follow your purpose like a lighthouse showing the path.
- Practice incremental improvements as symbolized by the sumo wrestler.
- Consistently build discipline as symbolized by pink wire cable.
- Realize the value of time as symbolized by a stopwatch.
- Selflessly serve others as symbolized by yellow roses.
- Embrace the present moment as symbolized by the path of diamonds.

Life Changing

Very well organized story. Easy to follow and understand; inspiring and beautiful.

I would highly recommend it as well as to follow this read with The Alchemist from Paulo Cohelo. These two books will give you a beautiful way to look and go about your life.

Had a major impact in my personal life!

I love this book and will continue to re-listen to this book. I love nonfiction books that are presented as fables and novels. Not all fables are good, but this is one of my favorite fables.

If I could have Read this Book 20 Years Ago

In my many years of my social and professional life, I have encountered bits and pieces of guidance, counsel and wisdom from my parents, teachers, pastors and mentors. But not in one pack of reading material that in one fable of a Monk’s life - such defining, deep wisdom and all rounded mentoring.

Really grateful to the Author and the team that put this together.

Diamonds in the Rough

This book reads like a spoken story, passed along from grandfather to grandson. It is not particularly literary in any way, and borders on very cheesy in much of its writing. However, there are golden little GEMS of wisdom throughout. As someone who has been studying and reading self help books for the last fifteen years, I would say that there are some fresh and inspiring techniques in this book, i.e. the Book of Dreams, The Heart of the Rose and more.

It has inspired me and I do intend to sift through it again to make some notes with which I can apply to life. Overall it's definitely worth a listen. Oh, and the real "wisdom" of the story (where we start to learn the Wisdom of the Sages of Savanna), starts about two hours in. The first two hours is backstory.

Enjoy!
