But we all know that connecting deeply with our families can be difficult in our busy, technology-driven society. Reading aloud is one of the best ways to be fully present with our children, even after they can read themselves, but it isn't always easy to do.

Mamas only connect to celebrate surviving another day and to share in their misery, rather than rejoice in what God has done and to build each other up in hard times. There has a be a better way, a biblical way, for mamas to grow and thrive. M Is for Mama offers advice, encouragement, and scripturally sound strategies seasoned with a little bit of humor to help you embrace the challenge of biblical motherhood and raise your children with love and wisdom.

Now, in The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness, he shares his findings with all of us who care about children. We don't need statistical studies or complicated expert opinions to raise children. It seems everywhere one looks, there are preschoolers who only behave in the grocery store for a treat, narcissistic teenagers posting selfies across all forms of social media, and adult children living off their parents. Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, is an expert in fatherhood - in part because his own 'fathers' failed him so badly. His biological dad was an alcoholic. His stepfather deserted him. His foster father accused Jim of trying to kill him. All were out of Jim's life by the time he turned 13. Isn't it odd - and reminiscent of the hand of God - that the director of the leading organization on family turned out to be a guy whose own background as a kid and son were pretty messed up?

The hell of cancer, the hell of a reluctant, thunking shovel full of earth upon the casket of someone we deeply loved, the hell of betrayal, the hell of betraying, the hell of divorce, the hell of a kid in trouble...the hell of knowing that this year, like any year, may be our last. We all walk through hell. The point is not to come out empty-handed.... There is real and profound power in the suffering we endure if we transform that suffering into a more authentic, meaningful life.

I read this book as part of a group with other mamas.
It was so refreshing and real. It helped us in areas where we were struggling as parents and gave us great tips. I highly recommend even if you think things are ok with your kids.

An excellent read on being a good human
I feel like I could have written this book—meaning, it resonated with me so much; even all the details! Great observations, stated well and simply regarding the preservation of the good old fashioned human, childhood, and family.

Timely reminders
Jessica taps into the simple things we all know our kids need, but can absolutely put to the side in the name of convenience or the slippery slope of parenting habits. I love the intertwining of faith at the end, because that’s what will take our kids well into their adulthood when we’re not their mommies and daddies anymore. Great stories, tips, and reminders of what our modern kids really need from us!

Not a Mom Yet
However, this and the Bible will be my two manuals for parenting. Wow, the amount of great insight, funny stories, and encouragement are overwhelming. I feel like I need to reread it five times to soak it all in. I’ll be buying this as a baby shower gift moving forward, seriously!

Awesome
I loved the honesty and clarity that you used. The presence of faith is absolutely a positive for me and the chapter on sexual issues was needed. Thank you
