Publisher's summary

Welcome to London, where the roaring twenties are filled with fangs and freaks.

When Irene is kidnapped by a gang of monsters, she is shoved straight into a world of magic and murder.

A mothman. An Unseelie. A demonic plague doctor.

The Freaks are a terrifying group ready to wreak havoc on the world that destroyed their humanity. As these creatures drag Irene into the dark, they crave her soul, mind—and body.

The longer these four are together, the faster they fall into a terrifying type of love.

Will the demons take the wings from their caged dove, or will they set her free before their world devours her?

Doves and Demons is the first book in the Freaks of Nature Duet and will be a complete story for the characters. No cliffhanger, but the plot threads go into the second book, which will have a different set of characters. This is a dark, spicy, why-choose steampunk monster romance.

Freaks of Nature and their dove 🕊️

Clio Evans can do me no wrong! Her ability to make me feel like I’m in the story myself is immaculate. Loved this book!

spicy dark monster romance

4.5 ⭐ 5 🌶️ 5 🎧

That was so much fun. A dark, why choose, morally black monster romance with some exquisite peens and an FMC with a ton of spunk, I was in absolute heaven. I binged this audiobook in an afternoon and I'm already begging for more.

I honestly could not get enough of these MMCs. A mobster mothman, a demonic plague doctor and an unseelie fae, all of which want to hate her so badly, yet can't stay away. The back and forth and enemies to lovers vibes were to unalive for here.

The audio was amazing. Lexi Evans and Logan Anare were both incredible. Their accents were so good, especially Logan's, and I had such a great time listening to them. They really brought these characters to life and I'm hoping they'll be doing book two as well.

Steampunk meets dark RH

Really loved this story. It’s very C/NC so if that ISN’T a trigger for you, I highly recommend this!

Great story - narration not so much

I love Clio Evans’ stories! This was no exception. Excellent 🔥
Good story & character building.
So, it pains me to say that the narration almost made me stop listening on several occasions. The MMC did a good job with the accents but sometimes changed pronunciations enough to notice. The FMC’s rendition of a “French” accent was painful. Her pronunciations also switched up during the story so much that it seemed as if she had stopped narrating the story & came back later to finish but forgot how she’d been saying things previously. If that kind of stuff isn’t bothersome to you get the book. It was an entertaining enough story for me to finish in spite of the narration.

not for everyone

I was looking for a steampunk story or a dark romance.. This checked off both of those boxes so I went for it.. There could have been a lot more World building and story, outside of the spice.. but I enjoyed it. the male narrator was absolutely fantastic..

So Much Steam It Could Power Up All the Blimps; It’s Almost Monstrous.

I will bare my fangs and be upfront; I professionally work with and am good friends with both narrators, Logan Anare and Lexi Evans. They are brilliant and my favorites, truly the voices of love and lust. When this book was first released on Audible, they kept mentioning a project they just finished called “Doves and Demons.”

Well, here it is.

You must know, this is about bedding monsters.

The backdrop of Victorian steampunk London is alive and thriving, shadows coming to life that work with our monsters effortlessly. The author is an incredible wordsmith and I enjoyed the lushness of her style. Each character is profound, unique, and driven; and major props to the narrators for nailing the array of accents!

Irene is a very strong female lead, a flower with delicate petals but thorns she is not afraid to use. Sometimes I felt she was a little too sharp to be fully adored, but in her situation, I understood.
All the three guys start off as cruel, but secretly are good hearted bad monsters or a tortured soul, or both, all wrapped in attractive packages with antennas, three eyes, or plaque masks.
Some of the evolution of this quad’s rapport I felt was too rapidly paced, but I suppose that is also a common romance trope.
Still, overall, I think our leads were fairly brilliant.

And the villain and their cronies! I wish we could have got to know them better. A very intriguing concept.

The mystery with the power of the dove device was engaging and there are so good composed twists in the narrative, making the gears move the whole time.

And the steam… whew. There are maybe two that were almost on the border of bring too intense for my blushing innocent self. Yet, I will admit, the creativity of these spicy moments and how the writer naturally built to getting hotter was the skill of a talented storyteller of this genre.

Once again, I cannot state the amazingness and talent enough of the two narrators, Lexi Evans and Logan Anare. They truly bring this to life!

Come my little fairies and puppets. This book will make you vibrate…how so? Join the freaks to find out.

Bad Dracula

I enjoyed the story and the spicy bits were good but the accents ruined this for me. The Irish sounded Jamaican, the French like a bad Dracula and I think one of them was English but couldn’t tell.
