This meeting of the Thalia Kids' Book Club centers on author Pam Muñoz Ryan’s imaginative retelling of poet Pablo Neruda's childhood in her book The Dreamer. Host Madeline Cohen begins by interviewing Ryan about Neruda's difficult, lonely beginnings, what it was like for her write the book, her research process, and the nuts and bolts of creating this richly illustrated "fictional biography". Accomplished actress Rita Wolf performs several dramatic readings from the book, followed by an insightful question-and-answer session with the young audience.

This inspirational book beautifully depicts how the awkward, shy, imaginative Chilean schoolboy Neftali Reyes, mesmerized by the natural world, became the world-renowned poet Pablo Neruda. This 1769 edition is highly sought after due to being more reader/listener friendly than the 1611 since many typos were fixed....
