Is the narrator a human?

Narrators tend to sound like AI devices not people. Perhaps it would be better to hire actors. Some kind of inflection in the words would sound like a human being imparting information. It would be supportive of the story. Gratefully Rachel’s book is informative and I know her voice and the excitement that she puts into her words when she speaks. Do narrators listen to an author reading their own words? I think it could be helpful if a narrator has that capacity.
