At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Have you ever walked home at night, keys in hand, ready to throw a punch in self-defence? That’s how it all started. The killing spree, I mean. I sort of tripped into this role. Literally. The first one was following me. That guy from the nightclub who wouldn’t leave me alone. I pushed him, he stumbled, and fell onto his own broken wine bottle. Oops. It was such a waste of a good house white. But now I can’t seem to stop and nor do I want to, I’ve got a taste for revenge and quite frankly, I’m killing it.

Everyone has a sensitive side, but nearly one in three people have the genes to be more sensitive than others—both physically and emotionally. These are the people who pause before speaking and think before acting; they tune in to subtle details and make connections that others miss. Whether introverted or extroverted, they tend to be bighearted, creative, and wired to go deep, yet society tells them to hide the very sensitivity that makes them this way. These are the world’s “highly sensitive people,” and Sensitive is the book that champions them.

She’s also a successful actor who has written a barrage of thoughtful essays published by the likes of the New York Times. If you ask her, though, she’s a total fraud. Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

What’s to be done about a jaywalking moose? A bear caught breaking and entering? A murderous tree? Three hundred years ago, animals that broke the law would be assigned legal representation and put on trial. These days, as New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach discovers, the answers are best found not in jurisprudence but in science: the curious science of human-wildlife conflict, a discipline at the crossroads of human behavior and wildlife biology.

Resumen del Editor
What would happen if a shy introvert lived like a gregarious extrovert for one year? If she knowingly and willingly put herself in perilous social situations that she’d normally avoid at all costs? Writer Jessica Pan intends to find out. With the help of various extrovert mentors, Jessica sets up a series of personal challenges (talk to strangers, perform stand-up comedy, host a dinner party, travel alone, make friends on the road, and much, much worse) to explore whether living like an extrovert can teach her lessons that might improve the quality of her life. Chronicling the author’s hilarious and painful year of misadventures, this book explores what happens when one introvert fights her natural tendencies, takes the plunge, and tries (and sometimes fails) to be a little bit braver.

In the tradition of Cynthia Heimel and Chelsea Handler, and with the boisterous iconoclasm of Amy Sedaris, Julie Klausner's candid and funny debut I Don't Care about Your Band sheds light on the humiliations we endure to find love - and the lessons that can be culled from the wreckage. Part memoir, part comedy routine, part advice manual, Challenge Accepted! is Celeste at her best, revealing her secrets to love, friendship, family, and marriage (oh hai, #hothusband), and how to deal with life’s many challenges - why she checks the bath for sharks, how Nutella quite literally shaped who she is as a woman, and why being famous on Instagram is like being rich in Monopoly. Lauren Weedman is not okay. She's living what should be the good life in sunny Los Angeles. After a gig as a correspondent with The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, she scored parts in blockbuster movies, which led to memorable recurring roles on HBO's Hung and Looking. She had a loving husband and an adorable baby boy. In these comedic essays, she turns a piercingly observant, darkly funny lens on the ways her life is actually not okay.

She isn't afraid to say what everyone is thinking when it comes to love, sex, friendship, and many other topics that are all too often sugar-coated in polite Southern company.

What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

It's no wonder that introversion is making headlines - half of all Americans are introverts. But if that describes you, are you making the most of your inner strength? In this book, psychologist and introvert Laurie Helgoe, PhD, unveils the genius of introversion. Introverts gain energy and power through reflection and solitude. Our culture, however, is geared toward the extrovert. The pressure to get out there and get happier can lead people to think that an inward orientation is a problem instead of an opportunity.

Most importantly, it thoroughly refutes many introverts’ belief that something is wrong with them. Instead, it helps them recognize their inner strengths - their analytical skills, ability to think outside the box, and strong powers of concentration.

One third to one half of Americans are introverts in a culture that celebrates - even enforces - an ideal of extroversion and a cult of personality. Political leaders are charismatic, celebrities bask in the spotlight, and authority figures are assertive. It is no surprise that a quiet revolution has begun to emerge among the invisible half of the population, asserting that they are just as powerful in their own unique ways. The Irresistible Introvert embodies the spirit of this revival and breaks down the myth that charisma is reserved for extroverts only.

One of the biggest myths that plagues the business world today is that our ability to network depends on having the “gift-of-gab”. You don’t have to be outgoing to be successful at networking. You don’t have to become a relentless self-promoter. In fact, you don’t have to act like an extrovert at all. Funny, charming book
Loved the humor and emotional warmth of this book. The author’s narration was wonderful and took me along on her many adventures through a year of stepping outside of her introvert-focused comfort zone. Introverts unite!
Truly loved this book on many levels; entertaining, funny, informative ans relatable. As an introvert who has often been misunderstood - it’s refreshing to read this story that’s both hilarious and a reminder that growth can happen without letting go of our introversion.

Well done.
Do well written and performed, I feel like I know this girl. I was also shy growing up. The take away for me was how incredibly important BFFs really are in life. Thanks Jess!

Relatable
I related in multiple ways to this book. I think we all know that putting ourselves out there is scary, but staying the same is worse. It was a nice story.

Encouraging memoir: Sorry, cheer
From the very first page, Pan's writing draws you in, weaving a narrative that resonates deeply and leaves you cheering for her every step of the way.
I love the candid honesty, Pan shares her fears, doubts, and triumphs, allowing me to not only witness her transformation but also reflect on my own life. Pan's ability to blend self-deprecating humor with poignant insights creates an engaging and empowering read.
Throughout the book, Pan's storytelling prowess shines, I was immersed in her experiences as she tackles everything from extroverted challenges. Each chapter is a mini-adventure, brilliantly capturing the mix of anxiety, excitement, and growth that comes with stepping outside one's comfort zone.
What I love the most is Pan's unwavering authenticity. Her vulnerability in sharing her journey is a refreshing reminder that it's okay to feel uncomfortable and to embrace our imperfections. I was invested in her progress, celebrating her victories and sympathizing with her setbacks. I was rooting for Pan the entire time but also felt inspired to push myself beyond any self-imposed limits.
The humor in "Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come" is another standout aspect. Pan's sharp wit and clever observations infuse each page with laughter, turning what could have been a daunting exploration of the unknown into an entertaining and uplifting experience. Her ability to find humor in the most unlikely situations helps to create a delightful balance that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.
In the end, this book is more than just a memoir; it's a call to embrace life's adventures, to step outside our comfort zones, and to celebrate the joy of growth and self-discovery. I felt encouraged, motivated, and excited to embark on my own personal journey, no matter how big or small.
"Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come" is a beautifully written, relatable, and humorous account of one woman's quest to conquer her introversion and embrace life to the fullest. Jessica Pan's engaging storytelling, genuine vulnerability, and infectious humor make this book an absolute delight. So, if you're seeking inspiration, a good laugh, and a reminder that stepping outside your comfort zone can be transformative, don't hesitate to dive into this remarkable memoir. You won't be disappointed.

Great book for today’s reality
I have no idea why I bought this book, but it seems I really needed its message. I really enjoyed the stories, author’s honestly and ability to find humor in her adventures. I will recommend this story to my friends and my kids- there are friends everywhere and people after pandemic really struggle to connect.

Jessica’s candor is impeccable!
I’m also an introvert albeit an outgoing introvert!
Don’t get me wrong, I still need to recharge though!
What a wonderful book!
I got the audio book and I’m so glad that Jessica was the one who narrated it - it made all the difference!
Her candor is spot on!
And doing improv is on my ‘bucket list’ too so this reminds me to check into that again! :)
Jessica is an amazing writer and she has a way with words that keeps you hooked!
I related to and cracked up at many parts of this story!
Brava, Jessica!
I hope there’s a movie or Netflix type of series in the near future! :)
