Publisher's summary
“Humanity is the core of our business.” — Richard Walker
As the CEO of a prominent IT consulting firm, York Solutions, Richard Walker has applied the principle of Relationship Equity to achieve tremendous business success as he builds the tech talent pool and helps professionals develop their careers. Walker describes Relationship Equity as the good faith you can build by investing in relationships faithfully and steadily, with no expectation of reaping a return.
In his new book, Relationship Equity: Your Cornerstone Investment to Great Gains in Business and Life, Walker takes his listeners on a journey of discovery, examining a principle with the power to revolutionize both business and personal lives.
He explains that the relationships we forge with others are of supreme importance—and when you get those right, the rest will follow.
“If you are a friend who is genuine,” he writes, “you will have genuine friends—and lo and behold— they will want to help you just as you have helped them.”
Sounds simple? It’s not.
Relationship Equity has many nuances, and Walker explores them all in Relationship Equity. To share the story of how he developed the philosophy, he escorts his readers back to the small-town world of his youth in northern England, then onward to his corporate life at the helm of a thriving American tech company.
“In our families, our businesses, our communities, our world—we need one another,” Walker writes. “We are not islands unto ourselves.”
In his new book, Walker teaches us what he and his company are doing today to pay forward the many acts of kindness that have come his way through the years. Richard Walker has made it his business to change lives for the better, and his business reflects that.

Are you still playing a role you learned in childhood to please others, such as the Good Girl/Boy, the Overachiever, or the Helper? Though these kinds of roles may have gained us attention and affection, they prohibited us from becoming our true selves. People-pleasing—putting others ahead of ourselves to avoid something negative or to get something we want or need—runs rampant in our society. Saying yes when we should say no leaves us stuck in frustrating patterns.

They've pulled me one way and then the other. At times, they've left me questioning my entire existence. But please don't think that I'm angry or morose. I'm not. Storytelling is a part of each one of us. We tell ourselves stories every day, based on our past encounters, and we mold them over time so they stay relevant with our growth. Our financial stories are no different than the plotlines in our personal lives, however; they can have a profound effect on how we manage our future. Children of the Great Depression lived through a time of scarcity, which shaped how they viewed their money as adults and how they ultimately passed down their money narratives to their children.

It is a frustratingly complex, opaque, and unaffordable system that results in suboptimal care and a deterioration of the welfare of the majority of American families. The experience of the past few decades and the recent ravaging pandemic has shown us that doing more of the same is not going to deliver us from this dilemma. But there is hope. There is a way to create a more accessible, consumer-friendly, safer, and affordable system of care for all of us.

A great read that hits home.
In a time where there are so many resources and perspectives offered, this one hit close to home.
Richard offers a humble and unique perspective into how building relationship equity has had a long term positive impact on his life and ultimately led him to where he is today. The narrating made it easy to visualize and relate to some of his experiences.
Overall a great listen, 5/5 would recommend.
