Publisher's summary

Compassionate, biblical, and thought-provoking, Embodied is an accessible guide for Christians who want help navigating issues related to transgenderism.

Preston Sprinkle draws on Scripture as well as real-life stories of individuals struggling with gender dysphoria to help listeners understand the complexities and emotions of this highly relevant topic. With careful research and an engaging style, Embodied explores:

  • What it means to be transgender, nonbinary, and gender-queer, and how these identities relate to being male or female
  • Why most stereotypes about what it means to be a man and woman comes from the culture and not the Bible
  • What the Bible says about humans created in God’s image as male and female, and how this relates to transgender experiences
  • Moral questions surrounding medical interventions such as sex reassignment surgery
  • Which pronouns to use and how to navigate the bathroom debate
  • Why more and more teens are questioning their gender

Written for Christian leaders, pastors, and parents, Embodied fills the great need for Christians to speak into the confusing and emotionally charged questions surrounding the transgender conversation.

Educational, instructional, and very needed.

This book was so incredibly helpful. I personally don’t have a lot of experience developing friendships with trans people but I want to be able to better cultivate relationships with people in the trans community.
I feel that Preston does a great job laying out the facts, scientific as well as biblical, when it comes to this conversation.
He keeps the conversation light when it can get to bogged down with heavy data and facts.
He doesn’t shy away from the truth and also provided helpful practical advice for parents, churches and everyday people.
Overall, it’s obvious that Preston has a heart for all image bearers and wants to show the love of Jesus to all.
I’d definitely recommend this book, even if you don’t currently have a trans person in your life.

This is a great book for scholarly Christians!

It helped me understand more about the Transgender discussion, and has allowed me to understand much about how to approach it.

Challenging and Complex

Had no idea how complex transgender issues were until listening to this book. The presentation of both scientific and biblical data was mind boggling at times, but eased by the author's sincere concern for real people with real struggles. Challenges believers in Jesus to live out His love and truth toward all people, regardless of how different they might seem.

Raised my compassion and understanding this human struggle is real.

Very compassionate angle, author has thoroughly researched topic, This opened my mind and heart. Maybe now I can bless, love, care instead of avoid. Very relevant book in these times in our culture. Time to pull head out of the sand.

Nuanced.

While I did not agree with everything Dr. Sprinkle put forth, it is obvious he went to great lengths to incorporate as many sides of the issue as he could. Worth listening while navigating the trans issue.

A Must-Read for all Christians

This work is incredible! I've been a straight Christian all my life, and have worked with several students from the trans community. Even though I knew some trans students and what they went through, this book lovingly opened my eyes to the humanity and difficult plight of this community. I was almost in tears at certain parts, and I feel like I have heard the wisdom from Jesus himself on how to deal with this complicated, delicate topic. Thank you for such an open-minded, fair, biblical work on how we can respond as the church.

A Christian view that challenges every side of the transgender debate

I did not know what view Preston Sprinkle held before reading this book. I only knew he had a reputation for being thoughtful, thorough, and caring. This book lives up to that reputation.

I did not agree with everything he said. I doubt anyone will agree with everything. But I felt challenged by the views with which I disagreed, and I cooukd see that people on the opposite side will be challenged as well.

The only issue I have with this audio book is that the sound quality takes a significant hit about halfway through. Still, it was listenable and overall enjoyable and thought provoking.
