I need more!

This book is exactly the kind that is up my alley. If you are into historical mystery with a strong female lead character then you really should give this book a go. My only complaint is that I found the series short. i want more 💜

Kind of a miss for me.

Silvia was to too meek for me. And the caricature of Willy as the bad mannered, bad language American is right out of a 1950s Western movie. I found her character offensive. I won't be going on with this series.

Audible get these releases faster!!!!

I have loved everything I have devoured by CJ Archer and am always disappointed that the next book isn’t available for preorder or usually released when the print version is. We have known how long the 2nd book in this series is coming out and a week out and still nothing on Audible about it. Begging Audible to do better by this author and her devoted fans!

Fun book

A wonderful book with quite a few twists and turns. I look forward to reading the next instalment.

It is fun to get to know the son if two of my favorite characters…and to love him just as much! I think Sylvia is a lot like India.

Bright new start to a series

I'm going to consider this author a "new to me" author. I went and looked back and I have read one book from her so far, but I didn't review it and it was several years ago. I rated it 2 stars (which means I did NOT DNF - but man, I rarely give 2 stars), but the premise of this book sounded interesting and I decided to give it another go.

There is a unique writing style that creates for the reader a kind of magical community where magic exists and it is also governed- all in a not too distant past timeline. We meet the female MC who is "just" a human, but she thinks she might have a magical line somewhere in her fsmily history. Her mother and brother are now deceased and she was never told who her father was. She is - of course- a librarian and through the course of this story, meets the male MC Gabe.

Gabe is the polar opposite of her. He is a returning war hero, comes from a long line of magical folks, is wealthy and part of a family who is the "cream of the crop" in society.

Regardless, the two meet up for various reasons and end up deciding to work together to solve a case (he is a detective who works with the police).

All in all I ended up enjoying this story. This is the first book in this series, and I think enough bread crumbs have been laid for several possible new directions. I listened to most of this on audio and thought the narrator - Marian Hussey - did a fine job with the narration.

Will I continue on if there is another book? Yep, I think I will.

I loved every second of the book. And the narrator was perfect for this book and the time period it is set in.

Enjoyed this story.

Have never read a book by this author and the characters were entertaining. I may look for others by this author.
