No one lives forever. But the truth survives us all. Kate Murray is deeply troubled. In front of her lies a dead man, a stranger who only minutes before had approached her wanting to tell her about a mystery, a long-forgotten murder. The crime was old, he'd told her, but still deserving of justice. Soon Kate is caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of events that takes her back into her grandmother's mysterious war-time past and across the Atlantic as she tries to retrace the dead man's footsteps.

London, 1992. Late one night, Edward Crane, 76, is declared dead at a London hospital. An obituary describes him only as a 'resourceful career diplomat'. But Crane was much more than that—and the circumstances surrounding his death are far from what they seem. Fifteen years later, academic Sam Gaddis needs money. When a journalist friend asks for his help researching a possible sixth member of the notorious Trinity spy ring, Gaddis knows that she's onto a story that could turn his fortunes around. But within hours the journalist is dead, apparently from a heart attack.

Twenty-five years after the end of the war, Noah Ainsworth is still preoccupied with those perilous, exhilarating years as a British SOE operative in France. A head injury sustained on his final operation has caused frustrating gaps in his memory—in particular about the agent who saved his life during that mission gone wrong, whose real name he never knew, nor whether she even survived the war. Moved by her father’s frustration, Noah’s daughter Charlotte begins a search for answers that resurrects the stories of Chloe and Fleur, the code names for two otherwise ordinary women.

Resumen del Editor
The Last Rights - A drama spanning eight decades in the life of a Holocaust survivor with an explosive secret
April 1945 - As the war in Europe draws to a chaotic and bloody finale, and the days of the Third Reich are numbered, a train filled with a cargo of Nazi gold sets off from Berlin destined for a secret location in Bavaria. On board, a young Polish Jew is about to witness a chain of events leading to the greatest robbery and criminal conspiracy of our time.
October 2018 - After 80 years, a Lisbon bank is about to finally close its safe deposit facility. The secrets and treasures locked away over decades will soon be revealed. Influential people in powerful positions have reasons to be concerned.
Fusing together the two events are the recollections of Rita Krakowski, Holocaust survivor, condemned as a Nazi collaborator and fugitive from justice. Memories are branded into her soul like the number on her forearm, revelations with far-reaching international and financial implications. Powerful forces are mobilised. She must be found and silenced forever.
For private investigators Chas Broadhurst and René Marchal, what appears to be a straight-forward assignment rapidly becomes a deadly race against time to find the woman before it is too late and to expose a cover-up 70 years in the making.

An unbearably tense novel of revenge, murder, bereavement and the destructive force of passion. The single-mother families of the isolated community under the shadow of the Pyderhorn, Bergen's greatest mountain, are being terrorised by a teenage gang. 19 hours of fantastic listening!
The memoir of Rita Krakowski, a holocaust victim, starts this book off. Her story is one of survival and strength. Then the book moves to the more present day accounts 2018 and how her memoir blows things apart in the US and abroad. I was a bit confused as to who many of the people where in the story and why they were significant, but each person was explained within the context of the chapter by their name. I enjoyed this author's work and would like to read more.
I listened to the audiobook version, and Amanda Parrott does a fantastic job of bringing each character to life. With her natural flow and her accent, I believe she was a perfect pick for the narration and story telling.
