I love, love, love this series!!! There is so much going on and so many awesome levels. It has been a little while since the last book in the series, and I have forgotten a few things about the last book. There are plenty of reminders along the way, so if you did not read the first book, you will get caught up. But I definitely recommend reading the whole series in order.
Emma is a fabulous kick butt chick. I love that she is a Siren, I have always been a big fan of Greek mythology. This gives new levels to the myth and adds it to a modern setting. I kind of wish there were some of her sisters' stories as well. I know they are separated, but it would be great to get more than the hints of them this book gives.
There is plenty of yummy steam here. Especially when you have a Siren torn between a Vampire lover and a Werewolf soul mate. The bedroom door is wide open, detailed enough to heat a gal up. It isn't full erotic detail, but there is plenty of hot steamy stuff. Very mainstream kind of sexy.
The story this time is great, keeps to the missing persons police procedural end of things. The mix of standard police case and paranormal elements is fantastic. The world building is through and engaging. The storytelling was dynamic and smooth. Everything is from Emma's POV, so the narrative is limited to what she knows, thinks or is a party to.
The romance is there but not really the key plot line, it is more a side plot. The investigation takes center stage most of the time. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. Always eager to know what next. The supporting cast is colorful as well. I adore Simon, the techie vampire hacker. He is super fun to read, I hope to see much more of him.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Johanna Parker, who is terrific! I love her energy and the emotion she infuses into the read. She has a nice swift pace that moves with the action of the story. The accents a subtle, yet distinct. She is a real credit to the series. It was an enjoyable listen on all fronts!
I am a big fan of this series. I am more than eager for the next book. I hate waiting!! The ending gives just enough of a hint of things to come, it had me salivating for the next book!
