Escaping from Vietnam meant traveling on a rusty cargo ship in the South China Sea for months, barely hanging onto life. Nam Moi’s father paid precious gold for the chance to escape the country, but the price the family paid to survive was much higher than gold. They had to start their lives all over again.

Fascinating, Engrossing, and Inspiring
The exciting story of an amazing Vietnamese family uprooted by communism and war and their harrowing adventures as refugees. At its heart it is the history of a smart, forward-looking father who sacrifices everything out of love for his large family. The tight-knit family bonds are an inspiration, and the suffering that this family goes through and finally overcomes is better than any adventure novel. I have great admiration for the author and her admirable family. A truly uplifting story.
