Stephen King couldn’t write this.

This is another gemstone in the crown of horror. This does not have the big scary monsters of other horror books on audible. It has a monster, but it’s a slow build to a true horror. I’m blind, I went blind slowly, and that’s horrible. That is this book. The slow and beautiful drawing of the curtain into exactly what you’d expect but. Different. It is well written. Well acted. And perfectly paced. It trucks your mind while protesting the honesty of both film making and modern cinema. I loved. Every. Minute. My only regret is that it ended. Fantastic. Thank you for this book.

It was good

I liked it for the most part. The "reading" of the script within the audio book was sort of monotonous but other than that it was good. I wish it was longer though I feel like I waited months just to read it in 1 day lol.

Fantastic audio book

Contrary to the first review, I absolutely LOVE the way it switches from first person to screenplay format. I like all the different voice actors, the hesitations, the sound effects. This story is super creepy and another great one by Tremblay.

It started off slow but it gets really good! i like how he somehow made it feel like a real movie.

My first return to audible

I absolutely loved A Cabin at the End of the World and Head Full of Ghosts. I was so looking forward to this book. Unfortunately, this book ON AUDIO is absolutely HORRIBLE. It has nothing to do with the voice talent. The reason I returned this book is how the book will go from first person to a movie screenplay.

This may work with a physical copy but on audio it is a deal breaker. It takes me completely out of the story 100%. The first person parts are EXCELLENT and I wish Mr. Tremblay would have continued with this style, however, this is not the case. The 'screenplay' parts are shockingly bad. For some reason, you will hear pages turning in these parts, as if you are listening to a group of people reading a screenplay. Also, the voice talent will repeat the same lines over and over due to a change in the 'script'.

I really wanted to love this book. I love horror movies and the story could have been great without the screenplay parts - again, this is the audio version. I honestly don't believe I could get into the physical book either but at least I would know what is coming.

I'm very disappointed.
