Resumen del Editor
Keyboardist and songwriter with the band Journey, Jonathan Cain writes this long-awaited memoir about his personal story of overcoming and faith, his career with one of the most successful musical groups in history, and the stories behind his greatest hits including "Don't Stop Believin'."
When Jonathan Cain and the iconic band Journey were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cain could say he had finally arrived. But Cain's journey wasn't always easy - and his true arrival in life had more to do with faith than fame.
As a child, Cain survived a horrific school fire that killed nearly 100 of his classmates. His experience formed a resilience that would carry him through both tragedy and success. Moving from Chicago to Sunset Boulevard, Cain never let go of his dreams, eventually getting his big break with Journey- and writing the songs that would become the soundtrack of a generation.
Don't Stop Believin' is an epic story of one man's dream that takes you from playing old-country songs at an Italian Deli in Chicago and his experiences with a warm, encouraging father who died too soon, to suddenly writing mega-bestselling songs with some of the most talented musicians and performers ever to take the stage of some of the world's largest arenas. He tells of the thrilling moments when the music came together and offers an inside look at why Steve Perry left and the extraordinary story of their gifted new vocalist, Arnel Pineda.
Through a wonderful retrospective of music that takes us right to the present, Jonathan Cain reminds us of the melodies and lyrics that serve as milestones for our biggest dreams as they call us to never stop believing.

With more than 90 million records sold and eight Grammy Awards throughout its 40-year history, Earth, Wind & Fire has staked its claim as one of the most successful, influential, and beloved acts in music history. Now, for the first time, its dynamic lead singer, Philip Bailey, chronicles the group's meteoric rise to stardom and his own professional and spiritual journey. Never before had a musical act crossed multiple styles and genres with a quixotic blend of astrology, universalism, and Egyptology as Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) did when it exploded into the public's conscience during the 1970s.

Lukather’s extraordinary tale also encompasses the dark side of stardom and the American Dream. Frank, engaging, and often hilarious, The Gospel According to Luke is no ordinary rock memoir.

Historia
Only a very few rock bands that have had the longevity, success, and drama of The Doobie Brothers. Born out of late 1960s NoCal, they stood alongside their contemporaries The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, and many others as an iconic American rock band. The train was rolling along, hits were flowing like wine, and arenas were packed with fans who wanted to see them live...then Tom Johnston, the band’s front man and lead guitarist, almost died.

Historia
From the do-or-die early days of self-financed recordings and D.I.Y. concert productions that were as flashy as they were foolhardy, to the multi-platinum, MTV-powered glory years of stadium-shaking anthems and chart-topping power ballads, to the ultimate crash when grunge bands like Nirvana forever altered the entire climate of the business, Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock's Nothin' But a Good Time captures the energy and excess of the hair metal years in the words of the musicians and industry insiders who lived it.

Historia
In this incisive memoir, Steve Lukather tells the complete Toto story. He also lifts the lid on what went on behind the closed studio doors, shedding light on the unique creative processes of some of the most legendary names in music: from Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, and Elton John to Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, and Aretha Franklin. Lukather’s extraordinary tale also encompasses the dark side of stardom and the American Dream. Frank, engaging, and often hilarious, The Gospel According to Luke is no ordinary rock memoir.

Just Listenable
This should have been read by a professional. The delivery was a severe distraction and the musical background noise was just over the top.

Difficult to judge the overall quality of this
This book goes against so many of the norms of Audible. There’s very few Audible listeners that wouldn’t wholeheartedly agree that having the author read their own prose is absolutely the best way. Unfortunately, this may be the first example that might go against that. Great singer? Great songwriter? Jonathan Cain is definitely both of those. But this reading is proof positive that just because you are great for using the microphone for one purpose, does not mean that you are great with it across the board. John struggles mightily with reading his own verse, but it’s hard to say that he shouldn’t have done at least a portion of it. His genuine emotion while talking about the crises in his life were necessary, and if he had not participated, we could’ve very likely been deprived of the tracks that he shared in and around the reading. With that said, though, he many times sabotages the quality of his writing with his oration, and many paragraphs wind up sounding like he’s talking down to the reader, or explaining the obvious. It definitely takes away from the quality of this. A speech coach would have been a huge help and/or doing like many audible books, and having the author read a few chapters, then having a professional reader read the rest.

Jonathan speaks well, but the story is quite thin. using music for effect really anoys me. something good but overall dissapiointing.

Enjoyed the Story, Not the Narration
Jonathan is a great songwriter, a good singer, and a horrible reader.
That said, I tend to buy books that are read by the writers. And I am glad that Jonathan read his own book. But he seriously does not have a good feel for grammar, inflection, ends of lines versus ends of sentences, etc. But again, I enjoyed the information and minutely enjoyed the music in between the chapters.

Inspiring
Honest , with positive tributes to current and former band mates , it would be cool to write another book about the song writing and collaboration with Steve Perry and possibly some actual writing sessions that you may have recorded .

Saw God's Hand Working
Listened to this in less than 2 days, and am thankful Jon wrote and voiced his memories.
Dads are vital - I recall my own praying at his bedside.
I'm his age and lived many of the same seasons. I too have often felt God's caring hand in my 68 years, and now feel permission to recall, relive, and live out many of my memories which were capped off, and left sleeping.
This work spoke to me. Showed the value of saying thank you, and you are welcome, and you are forgiven, and you will always be loved by Your Father.
Thanks Jon - hope I can call you that...

GREAT BOOK!!!!
I love this book!!! If you are a Journey fan, get this book. At the end of each chapter is great music written by Johnathon Cane. He is so talented. The book is a Journey through his life in good times and bad times with knowing him knowing that God as been there with every step. One of the best books I have listen to this year.
