Story
The summer in question started out with hot, fun-filled days and new friendships. We had just turned thirteen and had our whole lives ahead of us. But that was before her. Before we became known as the Hixton Five and our lives become defined by one night. It’s hard to believe twenty years have passed since she was locked away. But now she’s free and strange things have started to happen. When I close my eyes, the creeping anxiety and fear is overwhelming and all too real. Because the monster is back, and I know she has a score to settle with us.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Publisher's summary
She's the perfect host. He's the perfect victim.
Someone is hunting Connor. Alone, freezing, in the wilderness of Bodmin Moor, on an elite Special Forces training exercise, he'd be a fool to scorn the kindness of a local stranger. Wouldn't he?
At first, Eilidh seems to be an impeccable host. She offers Connor food and a warm bed - he finds it nearly impossible to leave her charming farmhouse.
But the choice isn't his to make.
There have been others before. None, though, as perfect as him.
Why would she let him leave?
Critic reviews
"I loved the classy writing and ever-growing sense of unease in this clever subversion of a classic country house mystery." (Harriet Tyce)
"A chilling drama." (Sunday Times)
"Misery for the Goop generation. You Can Stay is fantastic—an absolute treat of a book." (Catherine Simpson)

Story
In his debut collection of short stories, Robert Sheehan disappears into characters, challenging the complacencies of everyday experience, often from entirely unexpected angles. Informed by the author’s peripatetic life, Disappearing Act reflects on the absurdity of human behaviour. Sheehan delves deep into his characters’ streams of self-talk and self-imposed delusions, exploring the dark impulses that lurk below the shiny surfaces of many outwardly normal lives.

Story
There came an elastic aftershock of creaks and groans and then, softly softly, a chinking shower of rubbled cement. Leaves calmed and trunks stood serene. Where, not a minute before, there had been a suburb, there was now only woodland standing amid ruins. There is no warning. No chance to prepare. They arrive in the night: thundering up through the ground, transforming streets and towns into shadowy forest. Buildings are destroyed.

Gideon Frayne has spent his whole working life as a policeman in the village of Dark on Bodmin Moor. His first missing-child case is eating him alive. When his own boss sends in a psychic to help with the case, he's gutted - he's a level-headed copper who doesn't believe in such things, and he can't help but think that the arrival of clairvoyant Lee Tyack is a comment on his failure to find the little girl. In her small hometown, librarian Ruth Cornier has always felt like an outsider, even as her beloved father rains fire-and-brimstone warnings from the pulpit at Holy Fire Baptist. Unfortunately for Ruth, the only things the townspeople fear more than the God and the Devil are the myths that haunt the area, like the story of the Low Man, a vampiric figure said to steal into sinners' bedrooms and kill them on moonless nights. Excellent
This is an extremely well crafted book.
I was entertained from start to finish and I love how unique the plot is.
The characters are totally fleshed out, multidimensional, and the reader has the tantalizing task of trying to sort out what will happen next.
If a book manages to keep me engaged and invested for more than a few hours, I’m sold.
This author is an extraordinary talent and I cannot wait to see what she does next.
I’ve absolutely LOVED both of her books and I sincerely hope she keeps this momentum going.

A Great Little Psychological Thriller
If I hate a book and can't finish it, it gets a one or two star rating. If I gained some enjoyment from a book but it contained many annoying flaws and left me not wanting to read more by the author, it gets three stars. If a book is flawed but I really enjoyed it and want to read more by the author, it gets four stars. Every once in a while, I'll read a book and say to myself, wow, finally a truly professional writer and an amazing story. Those are five star books. This book, is a four and a half, but since I think I'm the first to write a review for it, I'm rounding up because I really hope others will read it. I normally listen to books while performing the mindless tedium of my job, but for this one I had to keep listening when I got home and finished it all in one day.
The narrators also did a good job, but I will caution you to listen to the sample to see if you can get an ear for the Scottish accents. I found it a little off-putting at first but soon it was no bother. If you are ok with the readers and the summary sounds appealing, I very much recommend giving this book a try.
