Story
All through her childhood in Tehran, Forugh Farrokhzad is told that Persian daughters should be quiet and modest. She is taught only to obey, but she always finds ways to rebel - gossiping with her sister among the fragrant roses of her mother's walled garden, venturing to the forbidden rooftop to roughhouse with her three brothers, writing poems to impress her strict, disapproving father, and sneaking out to flirt with a teenage paramour over café glacé. During the summer of 1950, Forugh's passion for poetry takes flight - and tradition seeks to clip her wings.

Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls living on the Korean island of Jeju, are best friends who come from very different backgrounds. When they are old enough, they begin working in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective, led by Young-sook’s mother. As the girls take up their positions as baby divers, they know they are beginning a life of excitement and responsibility but also danger. This beautiful, thoughtful novel illuminates a world turned upside down, one where the women are in charge, engaging in dangerous, physical work, and the men take care of the children.

The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Story
In the post-apocalyptic, neo-medieval city of Ark, speech is constrained to 500 sanctioned words. If somewhere were to speak outside that approved lexicon, they'd face banishment. The only exceptions to this rule are the Wordsmith and his apprentice, Letta. Together, they are the keepers and archivists of all language. But when Letta's master dies, she is suddenly promoted to Wordsmith and finds the situation more complicated than she knew.

Magic, adventure, mystery, and romance combine in this epic debut in which a young princess must reclaim her dead mother’s throne, learn to be a ruler - and defeat the Red Queen, a powerful and malevolent sorceress determined to destroy her. On her 19th birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa.

Outstanding!
I finished this book in 2 days! It hooked me in from the very beginning. This is only the 2nd book I've encountered about this group of Korean sea diving women. It was an excellent plot alternating between 2 sisters in different points in their lives, one during WWII and one much later as an elderly woman. The characters are very well developed and it shows an entirely different aspect of the war, one that unfortunately is a tragedy seen in all wars. I have to say this is one of the best Audible books I've listened to and I highly recommend it.

Not for the faint of heart, there is a lot of violence against women portrayed in this book. But it had me hooked. In the end, I have to say this is a beautiful tribute to women victims of war. I highly recommend.

Some little known casualties of military conflict
This book starts a little slow, but don’t give up. It picks up and is absolutely compelling, shedding light on a situation of which most Westerners have been unaware. And it does so in a first person relatable narrative.

Must Read!
Loved this book so much! Very sad and tough story but a part of history that we must remember. Much love goes out to the Korean women who were subjected to such harsh treat by the Japanese during WWII.

Wonderful story
White Chrysanthemum is a story of a young girl who endures unthinkable sadness. I found myself riveted, not wanting to stop listening. The historical aspect makes this story even more intriguing. Excellent book!

Beautifully written and wonderfully read!
This one is not easy to listen to but is a beautiful tribute to the ‘comfort women’ snatched from their homes.
Highly recommend!

Amazing story
Loved the sister storylines and a POV seldom told. Recommended to many friends interested in historical fiction.

Interesting
I found this book very interesting. I didn’t know of the comfort women. I knew rape happened during wars but not to this extent. Thank you for an intriguing book and a lesson in history.
