Story
Pete is a simple man who enjoys a good drink amongst good friends. Not too much to ask, right? Now, he's trapped in a fantasy world far from home, stuck underground and inside the body of a smelly dwarf with fantastic facial hair. The worst part? The swill that the dwarves are falling all over themselves to drink. It's flat, it's watery, and it has the alcohol content of a rancid coconut. Can Pete save the dwarves from their own sour fate, or will he be forever doomed to plink his pickaxe away in hopes that he hits the motherlode?

Becoming a knockoff Dracula in tight leather pants was never part of Vincent’s plans. Neither was being summoned to another world by a cult of vampire wannabes. But both happened. Now, Vincent’s left to pick up the tattered pieces of his humanity as he tries to grow strong enough to keep his family safe. The world is filled with nightmares, and the looming threat of losing his soul stands between his goal and his reality, so it’s not like it will be too hard or anything. Hell should tremble. Hiral is the Everfail, the weakest person on the flying island of Fallen Reach. He trains harder than any warrior. Studies longer than any scholar. But all his people are born with magic powered by the sun, flowing through tattoos on their bodies. Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Story
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Publisher's summary
Earth was invaded. Earth was conquered. And humanity was summarily subjugated, as 400,000,000 people were culled.
The terrifying part was this only took the Peacekeepers a second. There wasn't even a chance for us to fight back. In the blink of an eye, questions like whether or not we're alone in the universe or at the top of the food chain were answered. We were not. Not by a long shot.
Despite the mass murder, the Peacekeepers promise they're benevolent. They don't want to rule Earth. They don't want to control humanity. They just want us to stop playing around with AI and genetics.
Willing or unwilling, Morgan and the rest of humanity are now members of the Collective. And like every species in the Collective, they have to learn to play the Game.
What do you do when an AI offers you the opportunity to play the greatest tower defense game the universe has ever created? You accept, of course.
Learning the rules and finding a way to survive can come later. Morgan certainly thinks so.
When aliens are attacking your station and giant six-eyed rats are eating your robotic face, you start to have your doubts. Accidentally starting a war doesn't help, either. But what are you going to do? You're the first line of defense—and you've got a job to do.

Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. This time, vengeance will be ours.

Story
Dorky, socially awkward entomology student Evelyn wakes up one morning to find herself as some sort of alien-human hybrid trapped on an unknown planet. Once the initial panic winds down, she quickly learns she's capable of producing more of herself: additional bodies all sharing one mind. Being well-versed in sci-fi tropes, she quickly resolves to not devour the planet and turn into an unflinching biological armada, and instead uses her new powers to try and help as many people as possible. Unfortunately, it turns out that helping people is often very, very difficult.

A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

Another great book!
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Somehow the author manages to make a lot happen in a relatively short time without it feeling rushed. A great book and fun listen. I would have obviously preferred it to be about 6-10 hrs longer but still great. I hope he enjoyed writing it as much as I enjoyed listening to it because I really want a sequel haha.

Awesome book.
I loved it, my only complaint is it's too short. I could have listened another 8 hours lol. It's really not short but so much happens it feels like it .
I'm really looking forward to a sequel. Travis's narration was excellent as usual.

I get annoyed by books that make the protagonist, so overwhelmingly powerful that you can’t touch him, but in this case, this was very enjoyable

I can’t put my finger on exactly, but this wasn’t my type of this genre. Stats and upgrades were a focused, but there were so many of them coming so fast. It’s almost like they didn’t exist at all.

Benjamin Kerei take your bow! I'd love 2nds please
I loved, loved, loved First Line of Defense! It had lots of pop-cultural references... and I think at least half of 'em were Star Trek. It also had one of my favorite tropes an AI named Tee who was a complete smart ass from the get go. The system/game was great too. Travis Baldree was again fantastic, and bravo Benjamin Kerei take your bow!
So what are you waiting for get the book and enjoy!
I love quotes that make me laugh, here's a few:
"The president called Daniel’s parents and principal the following morning, but only on the condition Tee never contacted her directly again. Tee begrudgingly accepted the deal. By lunch time, he’d started nagging the vice-president instead."
“Also, make Pluto large enough to be a planet again."
“Awesome! I’m going to get ice cream, don’t blow anything up while I’m gone.”
“My name isn’t Nick.” “Are you sure? Because I’m pretty sure you’re Santa Claus since every time I see you, it's Christmas.”

He can't keep getting away with this!
Frankly, when I read the synapses it just didn't interest me. Then I saw the author's name, and I sighed because I knew it didn't matter what this author wrote. I knew I was gonna love it.
I was not surprised to find I finished this story in less then a day.
He's just so good at writing a well paced story with consistently engaging and witty banter with characters that are interesting, unique, and well...characters.
I do have to add the narrator is excellent and a personal favorite of mine. Great speaking cadence with an excellent range of young to old, male to female.
I've said it before, but I could listen to 2 people talk about paint drying for 8 hours if it was written by this guy, and my mind hasn't changed with this excellent story.
