Publisher's summary

Following the events of The Longmire Defense, we return to find Walt and our familiar cast of characters from Abaroska county tasked with solving a crime even more challenging than the last.

Walt Longmire returns in this twentieth installment of the award-winning and bestselling series that has been a hit on both the page and the screen. Set in the unsoiled countryside of Wyoming, Sheriff Walt Longmire has to navigate his own increasingly complicated personal life with the ever-changing and often violent underworld that encroaches on what was once referred to as the Old West. This time, he is up against a sinister plot that could hurt the people closest to him and forever change the way he sees his beloved Wyoming.

Another Good One

Great story, although just a touch unbelievable that Walt and Henry had the ability to outfight and outwit career criminals at the age of 22. I liked the dive into the history of their relationship and the country. One reviewer complained about politics, but history of internment camps is what it is. And the history added great context to the story. As always, the characters and writing are delightful.

Trying to do the right thing and being honest with people. For the people always.

I loved the suspense of how the past and the present was going on back and forth and I was held captive, couldn't get enough of it all.

Johnson is Up to Telling More than a Simple Story

Johnson does a great job of juggling two plot lines, one in the present and one from 1964, providing insights through the characters' actions and comments on notions of law and justice. Some knowledge of WWII is helpful in understanding characters in the story. I appreciate Johnson not giving lectures to provide that information, but slipping it in various seeming throw away lines of characters.

This book will be worth reading again, this time knowing exactly where it is headed, and gaining more understanding of the various characters and what Johnson is up to. He is up to telling more than a simple story. It might even be what we looked for in college literature classes reading books by Robert Penn Warren and Ralph Ellison. Hmmm. I

Another great read

I love this series, and the book did not disappoint. The main story takes place in 1964 with flash forward to current times.

Never disappoints!

This series never disappoints and I always enjoy the intertwining stories that Craig Johnson weaves with each Longmire novel. This is another strong entry.

As always a great murder mystery !

I loved the dual stories! The 2 stories being told at the same time makes the whole listening experience much more interesting and greatly enjoyable !

Nice to learn more about Walt and Henry but….

Overall a good story and a nice history lesson. But like another reviewer stated. It is a little far fetched that Walt and Henry have the real world experience at 22 to go up against experienced life long criminals.
