Story
Do you know the number one secret to getting more law clients? Marketing is always evolving. Forty years ago, lawyers couldn’t market. Then along came Bates v. Arizona state bar, and attorneys rushed to radio stations, local TV, and the phone book in search of that once-in-a-lifetime case. Then the internet happened, bringing us search engine optimization, pay per click ads, and social media. Every lawyer I talk to has tried one (or more) of these, but they feel like they’re just throwing money away. And most of the time they are.

Publisher's summary
Skilled lawyers who open their own firms can quickly find their dream career turning into a nightmare. When the firm doesn’t grow as fast as you expected, the money doesn’t come like you’d hoped despite working long hours, and your less-capable peers are passing you by, it can be demoralizing and deeply frustrating.
Mike Morse has been there. The change he made that transformed both his personal life and his professional future was running his law firm like a business.
Now, along with John Nachazel, Mike has written the book he wishes he had 20 years ago. In Fireproof, the duo lay out a roadmap of business principles to help you sort out what’s missing from your firm. By running your firm like a business, you are free to work in your sweet spot, doing what you love to do every day. You’ll attract more clients, make more money, and enjoy newfound freedom. As your firm grows, you’ll enjoy peace of mind knowing it’ll bring more profitability - not more problems.

The first audible book I bought after deciding to start my law firm
I’m starting my own PI firm a week in eight days. I listened to Mike’s podcast interview with Ken Hardison at least twice. At the time, I had been with an excellent PI firm for 4.5 years. I learned from two great trial lawyers and built my own book of business (originating millions in legal fees the last few years). But I had not really considered starting my own firm until I listened to Mike’s story. I was loyal to a fault to my bosses. When Mike began to describe himself as a visionary, I related to him in a unique way. When I read The E-Myth earlier this year, I realized that my two bosses (both technicians) resented some of my entrepreneurial qualities. I was ashamed of that in some ways. I decided to focus on being a better technician.
After listening to Mike’s podcast interview, I started thinking more about the qualities that make me who I am. I’m an excellent litigator and trial attorney. But I am a visionary at heart. I have no doubt.
I just finished Fireproof today. I’m fired up (no pun intended). I’m working hard to implement the principles of Fireproof and other legal entrepreneurship books.
Mike: You don’t know who I am or anything about me other than what I’ve shared with you here, but you’ve influenced me in profound ways. Thank you for that. When I look back on my life in 40 years, I have no doubt that I’ll remember Mike’s influence.

Challenging and Inspiring
The story of Mike Morse’s law firm is inspiring, and I’m glad he shares it in the first part of the book. It also proves that he’s a worthy guide. He’s transparent about his own mistakes and the adversities he’s faced on the bumpy road to success. Ultimately, this book is a challenge to begin thinking strategically about your firm’s success. People get hung up the profession versus business debate. It’s both, obviously. But too often, the debaters are really arguing about whether strategic thinking should factor into firm leadership. As Mike Morse says I’m the book, treat your practice like you would your biggest case. You wouldn’t work a big case without a strategy. Don’t run your form without one either.

As a lawyer myself, reading this book was both educational and inspiring. Mr. Morse is spot on in differentiating a small/solo practice vs. managing and scaling a law firm as a business. I highly recommend this book to any law km nac
