Dieses Hörbuch besteht aus der Erzählung „Ein Emigrant“, in welcher die Geschichte des kleinen Fritz prosaisch abgebildet wird, welcher als Dreijähriger von seiner Mutter eine Puppe, genannt „Laban“, geschenkt bekommt, zu welcher das Kind eine genau 10 Jahre währende Freundschaft aufbaut. Aus Sicht des Kindes hilft ihm dessen treuer Kumpel bei den Hausaufgaben und steht ihm bei allen Schwierigkeiten des Alltags mit Rat und Tat zur Seite, doch langsam häufen sich die negativen Begleitumstände in Form von sich das Maul zerreißenden Nachbarn und hänselnden Schulkameraden, so das Fritz beschließt, die Reißleine zu ziehen und sich von seinem Gefährten auf immer zu trennen. Leichter gesagt als getan – einen Mord bringt er nicht übers Herz, ein Aussetzen in der Straßenbahn scheitert ebenfalls, schließlich schickt er seinen unter unwahrscheinlichsten Umständen ständig zu ihm wiederkehrenden Kumpel ins Exil, indem er ihn in einen Zug mit unbekanntem Ziel setzt. Zum größten Erstaunen des Jungen macht Laban nun Karriere als eine Art Glücksmaskottchen, das vom Zugpersonal kreuz und quer durchs ganze Land geschickt wird, dabei immer mehr Eigentum anhäuft und beginnt die Massen zu faszinieren, welche in Scharen zu den Bahnhöfen strömen, um einmal Laban-Superstar persönlich zu sehen. Sein ehemaliger Busenfreund ist nun eine prominente Landes-Persönlichkeit und schließlich findet ein erneutes unerwartetes Wiedersehen statt, bei welchem aber von Fritz die endgültige Trennung forciert und initiiert wird, doch so definitiv ist selbst die mutmaßliche Ewigkeit nicht...
