In the story, a land owner named Vasili Andreevich Brekhunov takes along one of his peasants, Nikita, for a short journey to the house of the owner of a forest. He is impatient and wishes to get to the town more quickly to purchase the forest before other contenders can get there. They find themselves in the middle of a blizzard, but the master in his avarice wishes to press on. They eventually get lost off the road and they try to camp. The master's peasant soon finds himself suffering from hypothermia.

Genuine and Sweet
I loved listening to this book! More than just a thinly veiled lecture in taking care of animals, it was a heartfelt story of a creature who silently observed the virtue and the vice of humanity. I wouldn't say it's an examination of conscience so to speak, but much can be learned from it. The book as a whole also just demonstrates how far kindness and goodness go. I grew fond of many men and horses in this book. I bought it on a whim, because of a sale. I'm glad I read it.

THIS IS THE BESY BOOK EVER!!!!!!!
This is my favorite book. I am a hose lover and have two of my own. This book really made me think about my actions and it taught me lessons I will never forget. I have read this book about 5 times, but it never gets old! Again great book!!!! I would reccomend it to anyone who just wants to sit back, relax and enjoy a good story! 💜💙💚💛💝💖💟😀😀😀😀😀

I really like this story because it tells what a horse’s life is like. It also says what they feel like in certain circumstances, and makes you not really want to mistreat a horse.

A Childhood Classic Revisited
A trot down memory lane as I re-read (well, re-listened to in this case) a childhood beloved book! It was nice to revisit Black Beauty and his friends. However, I have to say that reading it as an adult who is attuned to animal cruelty is much different than reading it as a child with limited knowledge of the world. I loved this book both times around, though for different reasons. It is a well told story, albeit heartbreaking at times. For some reason, I had forgotten over the years that the story was told from the perspective of Black Beauty and not a third person narrator.
