Born Princess Vanessa of Atlantica, the ambitious young royal was one of two children born to the great King Poseidon. She and her brother, Triton, were groomed from birth to rule. Yet only one would ascend that coveted throne. While carefree Triton flits through his training with a cavalier demeanor and beguiling charm, Vanessa’s hunger for her father’s acceptance drives her to push herself to the limits of magic and to combat to become a leader worthy of her people. Haelewise has always lived under the shadow of her mother, Hedda—a woman who will do anything to keep her daughter protected. For with her strange black eyes and even stranger fainting spells, Haelewise is shunned by her village, and her only solace lies in the stories her mother tells of child-stealing witches, of princes in wolf-skins, of an ancient tower cloaked in mist, where women will find shelter if they are brave enough to seek it. Then, Hedda dies, and Haelewise is left unmoored.

One June day when Mia Jacob can no longer see a way to survive, the power of words saves her. The Scarlet Letter was written almost two hundred years earlier, but it seems to tell the story of Mia’s mother, Ivy, and their life inside the Community—an oppressive cult in western Massachusetts where contact with the outside world is forbidden. But how could this be? How could Nathaniel Hawthorne have so perfectly captured the pain and loss that Mia carries inside her?

Resumen del Editor
In the vein of Wicked, The Woodcutter, and Boy, Snow, Bird, a luminous re-imagining of a classic tale, told from the perspective of Agnes, Cinderella’s "evil" stepmother.
We all know the story of Cinderella. Or do we?
As rumors about the cruel upbringing of beautiful newlywed Princess Cinderella roil the kingdom, her stepmother, Agnes, who knows all too well about hardship, privately records the true story....
A peasant born into serfdom, Agnes is separated from her family and forced into servitude as a laundress' apprentice when she is only 10 years old. Using her wits and ingenuity, she escapes her tyrannical matron and makes her way toward a hopeful future. When teenage Agnes is seduced by an older man and becomes pregnant, she is transformed by love for her child.
Once again left penniless, Agnes has no choice but to return to servitude at the manor she thought she had left behind. Her new position is nursemaid to Ella, an otherworldly infant. She struggles to love the child who in time becomes her stepdaughter and, eventually, the celebrated princess who embodies everyone’s unattainable fantasies. The story of their relationship reveals that nothing is what it seems, that beauty is not always desirable, and that love can take on many guises.
Lyrically told, emotionally evocative, and brilliantly perceptive, All the Ever Afters explores the hidden complexities that lie beneath classic tales of good and evil, all the while showing us that how we confront adversity reveals a more profound, and ultimately more important, truth than the ideal of "happily ever after".

Set in the vibrant fourteenth century of Chaucer and the Black Death, the story features knights fighting in battle, serfs struggling in poverty, and the magnificent Plantagenets—Edward III, the Black Prince, and Richard II—who rule despotically over a court rotten with intrigue. Historia
Wealthy and arrogant, Gabriel Penhallow knows it's time to fulfill his dynastic duty. All he must do is follow "The Penhallow way" - find a biddable bride, produce an heir and a spare, and then live separate lives. It's worked so well for generations, certainly one kiss with the delectable Livia Stuart isn't going to change things. Society dictates he marry her, and one chit is as good as another as long as she's from a decent family.

From Richard Wright comes a compelling story of one man's attempt to escape his past and start anew in Harlem. Cross Damon is a man at odds with society and with himself—a man of superior intellect who hungers for peace but who brings terror and destruction wherever he goes. The Outsider is an important work of fiction that depicts American racism and its devastating consequences in raw and unflinching terms. Brilliantly imagined and frighteningly prescient, it is an epic exploration of the tragic roots of criminal behavior.

On the night of November 29, 1981, Natalie Wood disappeared from her yacht, the Splendour, while visiting Catalina Island with her husband, Robert “R.J.” Wagner and their friend, Christopher Walken. The beloved movie star’s tragic drowning shook America, inspiring troves of magazine covers and media pieces. In 2018, at the urging of the public, it was reclassified as “suspicious.”

Then there was that other sound - the ominous thump before all went quiet. In the morning, her mother was gone. The official story was that she left. Her loving, devoted mother! That hadn’t sat any better at the time than it did when Sloane moved out at 18, anxious to leave her Texas hometown in search of anywhere else. But not even a fresh start working as a model in New York could keep the nightmares at bay. Or her fears that her father is deadly.

A woman far before her time
This book transported me to a different time and I enjoyed every minute of it. a clever woman indeed on a mission to give her daughters the best life they could. I loved the language, the imagery, and the narrator.

Very enjoyable book.
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and the story was certainly interesting. There is always two sides to every story....

An alternate view of the Cinderella story
I've always loved fairy tales, and this beautiful re-telling of the Cinderella story was very appealing. It did drag a bit in the middle, and the ending felt a bit rushed and too tidy, but it's still a lovely story if you love fairy tales. The narration is perfect.

What a great book that tells a different but heartwarming tale.
I loved it. Sometimes it was hard to decipher the language used as it was set so long ago but it was a beautiful book. Told so well. Would recommend it! Leaves you with a warm heart about the fairy tale

Drawn out
This story dragged and was boring. And although a fairy tale, parts did not make sense that came from the Step Mother’s point of view. Just rambling excuses to try to justify bad behavior. Will not be recommending to my book clubs.

One of my favorite fairy tale retellings!!!
I've read a lot of fairy tale retellings, but I think this is one of my favorites. It's a beautifully told story of Cinderella's "evil" step-mother. However, this could almost stand entirely alone without the hook of being about Cinderella's stepmother. It's a wonderful and interesting story all on its own and really only ventures into the realm of the Cinderella fairy tale in the last third.
Also, I think I'm really glad that I listened to this one instead of reading it. I feel like I would have skimmed over the beautiful language if I was reading it on my own. But by listening to it, I was forced into absorbing every word and I was transported into the world. Jane Copland is a wonderful narrator.
This book is really wonderful and I would definitely suggest this as a must-read.

Excellent in every way
I love the realism of the story vs the fairytale most know. It is beautifully written and I would highly recommend. I loved it very much.

highly recommended
I was skeptical. The summary seemed interesting, and so I decided to give it a try. I was concerned it would lean YA. I am happy to report that this is not childish at all. I was interested and entertained throughout the entire book. I really liked the ended, it just worked for me. Great book amd narration.

Not Just Another Cinderella Story
While I appreciate the idea of the story being told from the stepmother’s point of view, the content didn’t feel substantial enough to carry it off. The narrater was very good and her talent is one of the things that held my interest. The other thing was my waiting and hoping for the story to give me something more. All in all, the idea was very good.
